M115 (115mm) Flap Discs are overlapping-flap abrasive discs for angle grinders, ideal for weld blending, edge finishing and stainless steel work where a bonded wheel would mark or overheat.

About Flap Discs

Flap Discs are grinding discs made of overlapping abrasive flaps bonded to a backing plate. As the disc wears, fresh abrasive is exposed continuously, giving smoother grinding and a finer finish than a bonded grinding wheel. Used face-on like a grinding wheel but produces less heat and a much better surface finish. Standard 22.23mm arbor, sized 100 / 115 / 125 / 180mm for standard angle grinders. Grits from 40 (ultra coarse) to 120 (medium). Alpha Silver Series for metal and stainless steel.

What is this and how do I use it?

A grinding disc made of overlapping abrasive flaps bonded to a backing plate. As the disc wears, fresh abrasive is exposed continuously, giving smoother grinding and a finer finish than a bonded grinding wheel.

Used face-on like a grinding wheel but produces less heat and a smoother finish. Ideal for blending welds, smoothing edges, finishing stainless steel where blueing must be avoided. Wears faster than a bonded grinding wheel but leaves a much better surface.

What tool does this fit?

Same arbor (22.23mm) and diameter range as a bonded grinding wheel. Fits standard angle grinders at 100 / 115 / 125 / 180mm.

Check the grinder's max RPM against the disc's marked rating before use.

What grit do I need?

Match the grit to the job: 40 to 60 grit for ultra-coarse rapid stock removal; 80 to 120 grit for general work; 150 to 240 grit for fine finishing.

Lower grit numbers cut faster but leave a rougher finish; higher grit numbers cut slower but finish smoother. For paint removal, start coarse (40 to 60). For surface preparation before painting or coating, finish at 120 to 180. For polishing metal, work up through several grits.

What material does this work on?

Designed for steel and stainless steel as standard. Aluminium, brass and timber can also be worked but use a dedicated wood-grit disc on timber for the best finish.

Stainless requires zirconia or ceramic-grain coated abrasives (most BNA SKUs) to avoid loading and overheating. Aluminium and brass work with the same disc but with light pressure to avoid clogging the abrasive.
