Frequently Asked Questions

What is a worm-drive hose clamp?
A stainless steel band with a screw-driven worm gear that tightens the band around a hose, pipe or cable bundle. The worm screw cinches the band as it rotates.

Standard plumbing / automotive / marine hose retention. The screw drive lets you cinch the clamp tight onto the hose with a slot or hex drive, then re-tighten over time as the hose seasoning settles.

How do I size a hose clamp to my hose?
Check the size range printed on the clamp - e.g. 10-16mm covers hoses 10mm to 16mm OD. Choose so the hose OD is in the middle of the clamp's range, not at either extreme.

Too-small clamp won't close on the hose; too-big clamp at minimum cinch can't apply enough pressure to seal. The product page lists the diameter range per stocked size.

Is the worm screw the same stainless as the band?
No. The band is stainless steel (A2-70 G304 on stocked variants), but the worm screw / drive bolt is zinc plated steel. The product title typically lists this as "Stainless Band Zinc Bolt".

Practical implication: in long-term marine or chlorinated service, the zinc plating on the bolt will rust before the stainless band fails. The clamp still works (the band carries the sealing force) but appearance can degrade and the bolt may seize. For all-stainless construction including the worm screw, specify an A4-70 G316 marine-grade variant (less commonly stocked) and we can source on request.

What grade stainless is the band?
Stocked Inox World hose clamps have an A2-70 G304 stainless steel band - the practical default for general plumbing and automotive use. For marine, coastal or chemical exposure, specify A4-70 G316 (less commonly stocked).

G304 resists rust from condensation, water spray and humidity well in mild outdoor service. G316 adds molybdenum for chloride resistance, which matters for permanent saltwater and chlorinated-pool installations.

What driver should I use?
Most worm-drive clamps take a 7mm or 8mm hex nutsetter, OR a flat-blade slot screwdriver in the worm screw head.

For high-volume install (multiple clamps per job), a magnetic nutsetter on a cordless driver is dramatically faster than a hand screwdriver.

Can I reuse a clamp?
Yes - hose clamps are reusable as long as the band and worm screw are intact. Inspect the band for kinks or stretch before reusing.

Replace any clamp where the band has bent permanently out of round, where the worm gear teeth are stripped, or where the worm screw spins freely without tightening the band.

Material & Coating

Stainless A2-70 G304 Austenitic stainless steel. Property class 70 designates a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa with a 0.2 percent proof stress of 450 MPa. Lightly magnetic in cold-worked form, which does not affect corrosion performance.

Grade selection A2-70 G304 is the general-purpose stainless grade for outdoor and most chemical environments. A4-70 G316 contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum, giving substantially better resistance to chlorides; A4-70 G316 is the preferred grade for marine, coastal and pool environments.

Important Do not pair stainless fasteners with plain or galvanised steel components in wet service. The galvanic potential difference accelerates corrosion of the less-noble metal.

Class Stainless fasteners are classified by property class: A2-35 / A2-50 / A2-70 in G304 stainless, and A4-40 / A4-70 / A4-80 (Bumax 88) in G316. The first digit indicates the alloy and the second is the minimum tensile strength in 100 MPa increments (e.g. A4-70 = 700 MPa). See the head marking chart and full strength table.
