About Push Nuts
Push Nuts (also called Starlock washers) are self-locking retainers that push onto a smooth, unthreaded shaft and grip it with sprung internal teeth. No thread, no tooling. Once installed, the teeth dig into the shaft and resist back-off; removal is one-way (destructive). Used for low-cost axle retention on wheels, hinge pin retention, toy and hobby assembly, conduit retention.

The internal teeth bite as the nut is pushed on. Once fully seated, the teeth lock against any back-off direction. Cannot be tightened or repositioned after install.
Removal usually destroys the push nut. Use a fresh nut on reassembly.
Push nuts: match nominal diameter to shaft diameter for a tight grip. R clips and linch pins: match the wire / pin diameter to the host hole and the working length to the shaft thickness.

Push nuts are the cheapest possible retainer, used where the assembly is unlikely to come apart and where a more expensive retainer is unjustified.
How to Measure
Sizing Push nuts are sized by the shaft diameter they grip. Match the push nut to the diameter of the stud or shaft you are retaining - push nuts have no length and are not measured end to end.
