About Nutsetters

Nutsetters are 1/4 inch hex shank driver bits with a hex cup at the working end that grips the external hex head of a screw or nut. Sized by hex cup AF dimension - 7mm, 8mm, 10mm and 13mm metric; 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 7/16 inch imperial. Most are magnetic, retaining the screw head while you start the drive.

How to Measure

Sizing Nutsetters are sized by hex cup AF dimension in metric (7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm) and imperial (1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16"). The cup must match the hex head AF exactly - undersized cup will spin on the head, rounding the corners and stripping the head.

How to measure a driver bit Pick the bit by the hex cup AF dimension - measure the fastener head with a calliper, not the bit cup. The shank is the bit's clamping end - 1/4" hex is the universal standard across cordless drivers, impact drivers and bit holders. The overall length determines reach: 25mm insert for general use, 50mm to 90mm power bits with a torsion zone for impact drivers, 116mm for Hilti autofeed, long-shank Allen keys for recessed socket cap screws. Cross-check the tip dimension against the screw head before driving - an undersized bit cams out and strips the recess.
