About Hex Bits
Hex driver bits engage the internal-hex (Allen) recess on socket cap screws, button head sockets, countersunk sockets and grub screws. Sized by AF (across flats) dimension in metric (1.5mm to 10mm) and imperial (1/16 to 3/8 inch). The bit AF must match the recess AF exactly.

Fits any internal-hex fastener of the matching AF (across flats) dimension. The same AF fits Socket Cap Screws, Button Head Sockets, Countersunk Sockets and Grub Screws.
Metric sizes run 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm. Imperial sizes run 1/16" through 3/8". Metric and imperial hex are NOT interchangeable - 5mm hex is NOT 3/16". Cross-check with the matching Sockets category for the screws this bit drives.
Hex drive transfers torque on six flat surfaces - high torque capacity but low cam-out tolerance. Once the socket is rounded, the bit just spins. Match the AF exactly, push the bit fully into the recess before turning, and replace worn bits at the first sign of corner rounding.
Hex drive geometry tolerates impact torque well at the recess end. The failure mode is at the bit's own hex shank where it chucks into the driver - if it's not impact-rated, the shank twists and shears.
The bit AF dimension printed on the bit body matches the recess AF on the screw. E.g. an M8 Socket Cap Screw takes a 6mm hex bit; an M10 Button Head Socket takes a 6mm hex bit (the recess is sized to the screw thread per ISO 4762).
How to Measure
Sizing Hex bits are sized by AF (across flats) dimension in metric (1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm) and imperial (1/16" to 3/8"). The bit AF must match the recess AF exactly - 0.1mm undersize is enough to round out the socket on an installation tighten. Metric and imperial hex sizes are NOT interchangeable.
How to measure a driver bit Pick the bit by the AF (across flats) dimension of the hex tip (1.5mm to 10mm metric or 1/16" to 3/8" imperial). The shank is the bit's clamping end - 1/4" hex is the universal standard across cordless drivers, impact drivers and bit holders. The overall length determines reach: 25mm insert for general use, 50mm to 90mm power bits with a torsion zone for impact drivers, 116mm for Hilti autofeed, long-shank Allen keys for recessed socket cap screws. Cross-check the tip dimension against the screw head before driving - an undersized bit cams out and strips the recess.

Magnetism
This product is magnetised. The tip / cup retains a fastener through alignment and engagement, which speeds work in overhead, awkward or one-handed install scenarios. Across the wider Driving range, magnetised bits, holders and nutsetters speed install by holding the fastener on the tip through alignment; non-magnetised tools are preferred for electronics, magnetic-sensor proximity and any work where stray magnetism on the fastener would cause downstream issues.
