Material & Coating
Stainless steel is the standard corrosion-resistant material for fasteners. A2-70 G304 is the most popular grade — aesthetically clean, highly corrosion resistant in most non-marine environments. A4-70 G316 marine grade adds molybdenum for chloride resistance and is the right choice within 300m of the coast, in salt spray, chemical or food-contact installations. Most stainless products are identifiable by stamped head markings: A2, A2-70, 304 or G304 for general grade; A4, A4-70, 316 or G316 for marine.
Magnetism Note: Stainless steels are largely non-magnetic, but it is common for stainless fasteners to show a small degree of magnetism. This is a natural result of the work-hardening process during cold-heading and manufacturing, not a sign of inferior quality.
Maintenance & Corrosion Best Practices
Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof. Surface staining or failure can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. Carbon-steel tools and drills used during installation can shed minute particles onto the stainless surface, which rust and produce a tea-stained appearance. Use stainless-only tools or thoroughly clean the assembly after installation.

How Rivets Work
Using a structural rivet tool, the rivet is ‘set’ by drawing the stem through the shell, which causes the body to expand/compress to distort and clamp the material securely. After the desired clamping force is achieved, the stem breaks off at a predetermined position and is discarded. A small portion of the stem remains trapped in the bottom of the shell to ensure the clamping force is retained in the joint. Blind rivets are designed to clamp together specific thicknesses of material. If the grip range is less than it should be (the rivet is too long), excessive material will be left on the blind side and more pulls will be required to break-off the mandrel. If the grip range is too large (rivet is too short), insufficient material may be left on the blind side to secure the joint
Material Pairing
As a general rule, the shell material of the rivet should be the same as the material under the head, ie, if aluminium is fastened to steel, use steel rivets. Part of the stem remains in the shell after setting. In the case of steel stems, this part may rust, an undesirable attribute in many circumstances. In these cases, choose a rivet with a stainless or aluminium stem

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the tensile strength of this rivet?
Yield 240 MPa, ultimate tensile 400 MPa. Mild-steel grade for general fastening below working limits.
What thickness of material can this rivet fasten?
This rivet's grip range is 4.3mm to 17.5mm — the total combined thickness of the materials you're joining must fall within this range. If the layers add up to less than the minimum, the rivet won't form a proper back-head; if more than the maximum, the mandrel won't pull through to set the joint.
