6.4mm (1/4") Dome Standard Rivets are open-end domed-head blind rivets for sheet metal, signage, automotive panels and any thin-material assembly that needs a permanent one-sided joint.

About Dome Standard Rivets

Dome Standard Rivets are open-end blind rivets with a domed head, installed from one side of the workpiece with a rivet tool. The tool pulls the mandrel; the body expands behind the work face and clamps the joint permanently. The default fastener for sheet metal, light steel, signage, automotive panels and any thin-material assembly that needs a permanent one-sided joint. Manufactured to DIN 7337 across the full range of body / mandrel material combinations (aluminium / steel, all stainless, all aluminium, monel / steel, copper / steel).

Recommended use General industrial use where corrosion is not a concern: indoor assemblies, oiled machinery, sacrificial joints, and any high-strength sheet-metal joint that will be painted or sealed.

What is a blind rivet and how does it work?

A two-part fastener (body plus mandrel) installed from one side of the workpiece with a rivet tool. The tool pulls the mandrel; the body expands behind the work face and grips the joint permanently.

Designed for assemblies where the back side of the joint is inaccessible, where the customer cannot or should not put a nut on the other end. Common in sheet-metal fabrication, automotive body panels, signage, aluminium framing, ducting and trailers. Once installed, the rivet is permanent (drill out to remove).

What grip range do I need?

Match the grip range printed in the product name to the combined thickness of the two parts you are joining.

The grip range for this rivet is 8.10 - 9.50mm, which is the total panel thickness the rivet will clamp. Too thin and the rivet will spin without setting; too thick and the body cannot reach the back face. Always pick a rivet with a range that includes your actual stack-up.

What hole size do I drill?

This rivet's body diameter is 6.4mm (1/4"). Drill the hole 0.1mm larger than the body diameter so the rivet fits in the hole.

Drill the hole approximately 0.1 to 0.2mm larger than the rivet body diameter for a clean install. A hole that is too tight prevents the body from expanding correctly; too loose and the rivet spins without clamping.

What rivet tool do I need?

Any rivet tool rated for the rivet's body diameter. Manual (hand-squeeze), pneumatic, and battery-powered guns all work; choose the tool to suit the volume of installs.

For occasional installs, a hand-squeeze tool is enough up to about 4.8mm body diameter. For 6.4mm structural rivets, or any large production run, use a pneumatic or battery rivet gun rated for the size.

What body / mandrel materials does this rivet use?

Common combinations: aluminium body with steel mandrel (most common, general use), all stainless (marine and outdoor), all aluminium (electrical and aluminium-only structures), monel / steel (high corrosion resistance), copper / steel (decorative and electrical). Match the body material to the host material to avoid galvanic corrosion.

Where are blind rivets typically used?

Sheet-metal fabrication, signage, automotive body panels, aluminium framing, ducting, trailers, light enclosures, fascia and roofing.

Anywhere a permanent joint is needed and only one side of the joint is accessible. Faster than a bolt-and-nut for sheet-metal work; cheaper and lighter than welded studs.

Material & Coating

Shell (body) and Stem (mandrel) Both the shell and the stem are carbon steel. The strongest common blind-rivet construction by shear, but the least corrosion-resistant.

Important Will rust in outdoor or wet environments. Use a galvanised, stainless, or coated alternative where rust is unacceptable.

How to Measure

Rivet Length This rivet has a head that sits proud of the work face, so the length is the shell length - measured from directly under the head to the bottom of the shell body, excluding the mandrel bubble at the end. The head itself is not included in the size.
