About Countersink Decking Tools
Countersink Decking Tools combine a high-speed fluted drill bit with a countersink cutter and a free-spinning depth-stop collar, so every hole gets the same pilot and the same countersink depth without marking the deck. Match the tool to the screw: gauge (8g to 14g) and head style (standard or trim head). Essential in dense hardwoods like merbau and spotted gum where decking screws cannot drive without pre-drilling, and the anti-clog design keeps the cut visible as you work.

The high-speed fluted drill bit bores the pilot while the countersink cutter shapes the recess, so the screw head seats flush first time. The anti-clog design clears debris as it cuts.
The tool's pilot suits the screw gauge and its cutter is shaped for the head. A 10g standard head tool suits 10g (4.8mm) countersunk decking screws; trim head tools cut the smaller recess a trim head needs.
Test on an offcut first to confirm whether pre-drilling is necessary for your timber. Old, seasoned boards wear the bit faster than new stock; a dab of cutting compound on the bit tip extends its life.
Because the collar spins free on an o-ring, it does not burn or mark the deck surface when it touches down. Uniform depth means every screw head sits identically across the whole deck.
