ONSITE+ Step Tip Long Series Drill Bits

ONSITE+ Step Tip Long Series Drill Bits (also known as Long Self-Centring Drill Bit, Long Impact Drill Bit or Extended Reach Step Tip) are extended-reach impact-rated drill bits with a self-centring step-tip geometry that drills deep holes from an impact driver without chatter or punch-marks. Drill Bit Construction & Materials

Toughened HSS Body Same toughened HSS as the standard ONSITE+ Step Tip range, just longer. The shank is heat-treated to absorb impact-driver percussion at the chuck shoulder without snapping.

Step-Tip Geometry Same self-centring step-tip as the standard range: a tiny 2-3mm pre-pilot built into the cutting edge. Drills cleanly on flat, curved or hardened surfaces without a centre-punch mark.

Surface Treatment Black oxide or TiN-style finish over the cutting flutes, reducing friction in steel and stainless under impact-driver speeds.

Drive & Use

Use exactly like the standard ONSITE+ Step Tip range — no punch-mark required, drops into impact drivers and drill drivers, drills self-centring on hardened or curved surfaces.

The longer length means more flex under load. Run at moderate to slow speed, especially in the smaller diameters. A 3mm long-series step-tip flexes noticeably when pushed hard.

Drill in stages for deep holes. Run forward 25mm-50mm, withdraw to clear chips, advance again. Continuous forced deep cuts pack the flute and load the drill.

Pilot hole: not required for the step-tip geometry to start, but recommended for any hole over 8mm to reduce cutting load and prevent walk.

Drills steel, stainless, aluminium, timber and most plastics. Not for masonry. The toughened HSS construction handles general engineering materials with the impact shank surviving percussion.

Sizing & Measurements

Diameter range 3mm to 13mm metric, plus imperial fractional 1/8" to 1/2". Same range as the standard Step Tip, just with longer overall length.

Length range 150mm-230mm overall — roughly double the standard Step Tip length. The flute length is extended proportionally to clear chips from deeper holes.

Shank 1/4-inch hex with quick-change detent. Same shank as the standard ONSITE+ range — interchangeable with quick-change holders.

Use long step-tip where the workpiece sits in a recess, behind an obstruction, or inside a box section that the standard length can't reach.

Common: hollow structural steel where the far wall is 100mm-150mm in. Vehicle chassis members. Deep electrical cabinets where the standard chuck won't fit close to the work.

Length-to-diameter ratio matters. 3mm × 230mm long is much more flexible than 13mm × 230mm long. For small-diameter deep work, use a drill press or a guide bushing.
