M12 (12mm) x 1.75p Metric Coarse Channel Strut Nuts are nuts shaped to slide into strut channel and clamp into the channel's inward flanges when a bolt is tightened.

About Channel Strut Nuts

Channel Strut Nuts fit into the slotted opening of strut channel (Unistrut, Easystrut, P1000 and similar). Slide along the channel to the position you need, then tightening a bolt down through the channel pulls the nut up into the channel's inwards-facing flanges, clamping it in place. Available with or without a captive spring that holds the nut at the tightening position while you start the bolt. Also used in vehicle roof rack systems, where the rack feet clamp into the channel rails fitted along the roof.

Recommended use The standard outdoor finish for timber framing, fencing, decking, retaining walls and treated-timber contact (H3 and H4 treated pine). Decades of corrosion protection in most outdoor and rural environments.

Not sure what nut you have?
Two ways to identify it - whichever is easier with what is in front of you.
1If you have the nut

Find the spanner that fits it snugly, then measure the hole. Our nut identification chart lists every metric and imperial nut we stock side by side, sorted by spanner size.

Open the nut identification chart ›

2If you have its bolt

The fastest check is the male thread: the right nut spins onto its bolt by hand with no force. Identify the bolt size and pitch first with our bolt and screw guide, and the nut follows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bolt does this nut fit?
Any bolt with a matching M12 (12mm) x 1.75mm coarse thread pitch.

The nut must match the bolt's diameter AND pitch (metric) or TPI (imperial). A M12 (12mm) x 1.75 coarse nut will not engage a bolt with a different pitch, even when the diameter is the same. Strength class of the nut should equal or exceed the bolt class.

What strength class is this?
Class 4.6. Yield 240 MPa, ultimate tensile 400 MPa.

See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table and head markings.

What standard is this manufactured to?
Manufactured to the relevant industry standard.

Standards specify the nut's head dimensions, thread tolerance, and minimum strength class. Always pair the nut with a bolt to the equivalent standard for a guaranteed fit.

What spanner / socket size do I need?
Refer to the technical specifications table above for the spanner / driver size.

The specs table directly above this description lists the drive type and across-flats (AF) size for this product.

Where are these nuts typically used?
Anywhere a matching bolt needs to be clamped down: machinery assembly, structural connections, brackets, fittings.

Nuts are the half of the bolted joint that lets it come apart again. Match diameter, pitch and class to the bolt; add a flat washer under the nut to spread load on the clamped face.

Material & Coating

Galvanised Hot-dip galvanised carbon steel. The standard outdoor finish; thick zinc coating gives decades of corrosion resistance. The right choice for trailer chassis, mast and pole mounting, structural pipe clamping and outdoor tank fittings.

Matching Finishes Always match the finish across the assembly. Hot-dip galvanising adds a much thicker coating than zinc plating, so a zinc-plated nut will not wind onto a galvanised bolt, and a galvanised nut on a zinc-plated bolt will be loose. Pair galvanised bolts with galvanised nuts and washers.

Important Performance in permanent coastal applications (within 300 metres of the sea) is reduced. Refer to AGA technical bulletins or contact us for the right grade for severe marine exposure.

Class Metric fasteners are classified as class 2, 4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, 14.9. See the head marking chart and full strength table.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 1.75mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 1.75mm apart.

How to Measure

Sizing Channel nuts have two sizes that matter: the thread (M6, M8, M10) the bolt screws into, and the channel profile the nut fits - ours suit standard 41mm strut channel. The spring, where fitted, holds the nut in position inside the channel while you bolt up. Confirm both in the specifications table above.
