M18 (18mm) DIN 125 Flat Washers are international standard metric flat washers (DIN 125) for general-purpose load spreading on metric bolted joints.

About DIN 125 Flat Washers

DIN 125 Flat Washers are the international standard for general-purpose metric flat washers. Sized to a published outside diameter and thickness for each nominal bolt size, ensuring consistent fit across suppliers. Used as the default flat washer on metric bolted joints in machinery, structural steel, sheet metal and general assembly. Stainless A2-70 G304 and A4-70 G316.

How to measure washers
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know.
1If you know your bolt size

Washers are named by the bolt they fit: an M10 washer suits an M10 bolt. The inside diameter is slightly larger than the bolt so it slides on. Our guide covers every size and washer type we stock.

2If you have a washer in hand

Measure the inside diameter (ID), outside diameter (OD) and thickness, as shown in the drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this washer for?
A standard flat washer, used to spread bolt or nut clamping load over a wider bearing area and protect the work face from rotation marks during install.

The default washer for almost every bolted joint. Goes under the nut, under the head, or both. Choose material to match the bolt and the environment.

What bolt or thread does this fit?
Match the washer's nominal bore size to the bolt diameter. A M18 (18mm) washer fits a M18 (18mm) bolt.

The washer bore is sized with clearance over the bolt diameter so it slides on without binding. Outside diameter and thickness vary by standard (DIN 125, DIN 433, DIN 9021, HEC) for the same nominal bolt size.

What standard is this manufactured to?
Manufactured to DIN 125.

Common flat washer standards: DIN 125 (standard metric), DIN 433 (small OD), DIN 9021 (large OD / fender), HEC Standard (Australian commercial), ASTM F436M (hardened structural). Each defines the inside diameter, outside diameter and thickness for each nominal bolt size.

Where are flat washers typically used?
Under nuts and bolt heads on bolted joints, in timber framing (square washer), in sheet metal (fender washer), and anywhere the bolt clamping load must be spread over a wider area than the bolt head or nut alone provides.

Always pair the washer material to the bolt for galvanic compatibility: stainless bolt to stainless washer, galvanised bolt to galvanised washer. Mixing creates a corrosion cell in wet service.

Will this stainless washer cause galvanic corrosion with my bolt?
Only if the bolt is a different material AND the joint sees moisture. Stainless paired with stainless is fine.

Galvanic corrosion needs three things: two dissimilar metals, an electrolyte (usually moisture), and electrical contact. A stainless washer on a stainless bolt has identical metallurgy. Pairing stainless with galvanised in wet service will sacrifice the galvanising; pair like with like or coat the contact face.

Material & Coating

Stainless A4-70 G316 Austenitic stainless steel. Property class 70 designates a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa with a 0.2 percent proof stress of 450 MPa. Lightly magnetic in cold-worked form, which does not affect corrosion performance.

Grade selection A2-70 G304 is the general-purpose stainless grade for outdoor and most chemical environments. A4-70 G316 contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum, giving substantially better resistance to chlorides; A4-70 G316 is the preferred grade for marine, coastal and pool environments.

Important Do not pair stainless fasteners with plain or galvanised steel components in wet service. The galvanic potential difference accelerates corrosion of the less-noble metal.

Class Stainless fasteners are classified by property class: A2-35 / A2-50 / A2-70 in G304 stainless, and A4-40 / A4-70 / A4-80 (Bumax 88) in G316. The first digit indicates the alloy and the second is the minimum tensile strength in 100 MPa increments (e.g. A4-70 = 700 MPa). See the head marking chart and full strength table.

How to Order the Right Size Washer

Washer sizing Washer sizes can be confusing, so here is the quickest way to find the right one. If you already have a bolt or screw, match the bolt size: an M6 bolt takes an M6 washer, M10 takes M10, and so on. Look for the size at the start of the description (e.g. 'M6 Flat Round Washer').

If you only have a loose washer to match, measure the inside diameter and pick the next size down. The washer's inside is always slightly larger than the matching bolt so it slides on freely. For example, an inside measurement of approximately 6.50mm means you need an M6 washer; 17.25mm means you need an M16 washer.

The outside diameter is measured outside-to-outside. Thickness varies between batches - washers are not precision-made fasteners and slight variations are normal. All published measurements on this site should be used as a guide only.
