M8 (8mm) x 1.25p Metric Coarse Furniture Connector JCB Bolts are flat-head internal-hex bolts for flat-pack furniture, designed to mate with a barrel nut for clean demountable timber and panel joints.

About Furniture Connector JCB Bolts

Furniture Connector JCB Bolts (also called Joint Connector Bolts or Furniture Connector Screws) are flat-head bolts with an internal hex drive, designed to mate with a barrel nut (cross dowel) in flat-pack and knock-down furniture. The low-profile head sits flush in a counterbored hole on the visible face of the assembly while the shank passes through the panel and threads into a barrel nut sitting in a cross-bored hole in the mating piece. The result is a clean, demountable joint suitable for cabinetry, joinery, shop fittings and any flat-pack assembly that needs to be disassembled and re-assembled.

Recommended use Flat-pack and knock-down furniture, joinery, cabinet making, shop fittings, and any indoor assembly where the fastener head is visible on the finished surface.

Not sure if this is the right size or thread?
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know about your fastener.
1If you know the fastener diameter

2If you have the Allen key

Match your Allen / hex key AF (across-flats) to the screw size it fits. Our reference chart covers every metric and imperial size we stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a M8 (8mm) Furniture Connector JCB Bolt used for?
A flat-head bolt with an internal hex drive that mates with a barrel nut (cross dowel) in flat-pack and knock-down furniture, cabinetry, shop fittings and joinery.

The low-profile flat head sits flush in a counterbored hole on the visible face of the assembly. The shank passes through one piece of timber or panel and threads into a barrel nut sitting in a cross-bored hole in the mating piece. Tightening pulls the two pieces together with a clean, demountable joint.

What barrel nut do I pair with a M8 (8mm) JCB Bolt?
Pair with a matching M8 (8mm) Barrel Nut (cross dowel) from our Nuts range. Match the bolt diameter and length to the panel thickness.

Barrel nuts come in a range of diameters and lengths to suit different panel thicknesses. Pick a barrel nut whose body diameter fits the cross-bored hole in the mating panel and whose internal thread matches the bolt diameter and pitch.

How do I drill the holes for a M8 (8mm) JCB Bolt and barrel nut?
Drill two holes: a clearance hole through the first piece for the bolt shank, and a cross-bored hole in the second piece for the barrel nut body. Refer to the barrel nut spec sheet for the exact hole sizes for your size combination.

The bolt-shank hole is typically 0.5 to 1.0mm larger than the bolt's nominal diameter so the bolt slides through without binding. The barrel-nut cross-bore is drilled perpendicular to the bolt-shank hole and sized to the barrel nut's body diameter. Both holes must align cleanly; mis-aligned holes cause cross-threading.

What hex key do I need for a M8 (8mm) JCB Bolt?
A 4mm hex key for the M6 size and a 5mm hex key for the M8 size. Refer to the product details for the exact across-flats size for this SKU.

All BNA Furniture Connector JCB Bolts carry an internal hex drive in the head. A short-arm hex key is the easiest tool for assembly because the bolt head sits below the panel surface; a long-arm key can also reach. A T-handle or ball-end hex driver speeds up production assembly.

What strength rating does this bolt have?
Class 4.6. Yield 240 MPa, ultimate tensile 400 MPa.

See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table and head markings.

Can JCB Bolts be used outdoors?
Indoor or dry-environment use only. The nickel-plated finish is decorative; for outdoor or wet assemblies use the matching A2-70 G304 stainless variant.

Nickel plating gives a thin (5 to 20 micron) decorative layer with limited corrosion resistance. Outdoor or wet-service exposure will cause the plating to discolour and eventually corrode through to the carbon-steel base.

What standard is this manufactured to?
Manufactured to supplier specification

JCB / Furniture Connector Bolts are not covered by a single AS/DIN/ISO standard. Manufacturers supply them to their own internal spec for head dimensions, internal hex drive, thread profile and length tolerance. The thread itself follows ISO 261 (metric coarse).

Material & Coating

Nickel Plated Carbon steel with an electroplated nickel layer. The nickel coating gives a bright silvery cosmetic finish and useful corrosion protection for indoor service. Standard finish on furniture connector bolts where the head sits on a visible face of the assembled piece.

Important Indoor or dry-environment use only. Nickel plating is decorative and offers limited corrosion protection in wet, coastal or chemical service. For outdoor or wet assemblies use the matching A2-70 G304 stainless variant.

Class Metric fasteners are classified as class 2, 4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, 14.9. See the head marking chart and full strength table.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 1.25mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 1.25mm apart.

How to Measure

Fastener Length This product has a head that sits on top of the material, so the length is measured from directly under the head to the tip of the thread. The head itself is not included in the size.

Thread Length On a screw the thread length runs from the start of the unthreaded section (called the shank) to the end of the thread. To view the thread length for this product, select a length above.
