About Pan Head Machine Screws

Pan Head Machine Screws have a low-profile rounded head with a flat under-surface, driven by slot, Phillips or Pozi. The flat bearing surface seats well on the work face without the snag risk of a fully round head. The default machine-screw head style for general fixing in electrical, sheet metal, joinery hardware and fixtures. Manufactured to AS 1427 (Australian), DIN 7985 (metric Phillips) or ASNI B18.6.3 (imperial).

Recommended use A cosmetic finish chosen where appearance matters: retail point-of-sale displays, electronics enclosures, signage and indoor architectural fixings.

Material & Coating

Black Zinc Electroplated zinc on carbon steel followed by a black chromate (passivation) layer. The black chromate gives the screw its dark, decorative finish.

Important Some inconsistency in the final appearance can occur, most often inside the Phillips drive recess. Black Zinc is sometimes confused with Black Oxide, which is a different process and offers almost no corrosion protection. Black Zinc carries roughly the same corrosion resistance as standard clear-passivated electroplated zinc: suitable for indoor and dry-environment use, NOT for outdoor, wet, marine or treated-timber applications.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 0.70mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 0.70mm apart.

How to Measure

Fastener Length This product has a head that sits on top of the material, so the length is measured from directly under the head to the tip of the thread. The head itself is not included in the size.
