M5 (5mm) x 0.80p Metric Coarse Plus Nuts are blind-installed threaded inserts with a reinforced ribbed body and an enlarged flange, designed for high pull-out resistance in thicker or harder-to-grip materials.

About Plus Nuts

Plus Nuts have a reinforced ribbed body with an enlarged flange under the head, designed for high pull-out resistance in thicker or harder-to-grip materials. The body deforms into a tight crimp behind the panel during installation. Chosen for chassis brackets, structural fixings, and any application that needs more clamp force than a standard round nutsert can provide.

Recommended use Indoor and dry-environment use only. Common in automotive, machinery and electrical assembly where the bolt is not exposed to weather, condensation or wet service.

Not sure which rivet nut you need?
Our Nutsert Finder picks the right rivet nut for your job. Choose by bolt size, panel material and grip range, and it lists the open or closed end, round or hex nutserts that fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Nutsert and what is it used for?
A blind-installed threaded fastener that gives sheet metal or tubular sections a strong, removable metal thread where the substrate is too thin to tap.

Pre-drilled into a single-sided hole, then crushed with a nutsert tool so the body deforms and clamps the back face of the panel. The internal thread accepts a bolt afterwards. Used in sheet metal panels, tubular sections, vehicle body panels, signage, electrical enclosures and any thin-walled material that won't take a tapped thread.

How is a Nutsert installed?
Without the right nutsert tool, nutserts are extremely difficult to install correctly. With a proper tool: drill the recommended hole size, slide the nutsert onto a matching nose-piece on the nutsert tool, place into the hole, then squeeze the tool. The tool pulls the internal thread back which crushes the nutsert body and clamps it against the back of the panel.

BNA stocks a range of nutsert install tools to suit M3 to M12 nutserts - see our Tools range for manual lazy-tong, plier-style, pneumatic and battery-powered options. Always match the nose-piece to the nutsert thread size, and set the stroke or pressure to the grip range printed on the product. Both hole size and panel thickness matter: the hole has to match the body diameter (see the product specifications table above) and the panel thickness has to fall inside the grip range so the body can crush and clamp behind the panel.

How do I know what grip range I need?
Match the grip range printed in the product name to the actual thickness of the panel you're installing into.

The grip range for this nutsert is 0.50 - 4.45mm, which is the panel-thickness window the nutsert will clamp on. A nutsert installed into too-thin a panel won't clamp at all; into too-thick a panel it can't deform enough to reach the back face. If your panel thickness falls between two grip ranges, choose the lower of the two.

What hole size do I need?
Drill a 7.50mm hole for this nutsert. Hole size is product-specific and depends on body diameter, head style and grip range. Confirm against the product specifications table above before drilling.

Typical metric nutserts use a hole approximately 0.1 to 0.2mm larger than the nutsert body diameter, but always check the manufacturer's hole-size table for the exact dimension. Too small and the nutsert won't seat; too large and it spins in the hole instead of crushing.

What bolt does this take?
Any bolt with a matching M5 (5mm) x 0.80mm coarse thread pitch.

Bolt length should engage the full internal thread without bottoming out. If the nutsert is a closed-end style (sealed top), bolt length must be less than the internal cavity depth or the bolt will bottom out before the joint is tight.

What strength class is this?
Class 4.6. Yield 240 MPa, ultimate tensile 400 MPa.

See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table and head markings.

What standard is this manufactured to?
Manufactured to manufacturer specification.

Nutserts are often built to a manufacturer specification rather than a public standard. Material grade and class come from the base steel / stainless / aluminium specification (AISI, ASTM, AS/ISO 898 for the thread).

Where are these typically used?
Sheet-metal fabrication, vehicle body panels, signage, electrical enclosures, tubular sections, and any thin-walled assembly that needs a removable threaded joint.

Pick the material to match the substrate: zinc-plated for indoor / dry, stainless for outdoor / marine / chemical, aluminium for thin sheet aluminium and weight-sensitive assemblies.

Material & Coating

Zinc Electroplated zinc on carbon steel. A thin (5 to 12 micron) bright (clear-passivated) zinc layer applied by electrolysis. Bright silvery finish.

Important NOT suitable for outdoor, wet, marine or treated-timber applications. The thin coating is consumed quickly by rainwater or treated-pine preservatives. For outdoor use, specify hot-dip galvanised.

Class Metric fasteners are classified as class 2, 4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, 14.9. See the head marking chart and full strength table.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Every nutsert we stock is metric coarse - the default series that matches standard metric bolts and machine screws. This product has a 0.80mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 0.80mm apart.

How is the Length of a Nutsert Measured?

Nutsert Length Every nutsert is measured the same way: overall, head included - from the top of the head to the end of the body. The rule holds for every head style we stock, whether it is a large flange, small flange or countersunk head.

Length alone does not pick the right nutsert. The Grips range in the product name (for this product: 0.50 - 4.45mm) states the panel-thickness window the body clamps on - match that to your panel thickness and the body length looks after itself.

Still not sure? See our step-by-step guide on how to install a nutsert.
