Socket Set (Grub)

Match your Allen / hex key AF (across-flats) to the screw size it fits. Our reference chart covers every metric and imperial size we stock.
Grub screws — also called socket set screws or simply set screws — are fully headless fasteners with an internal hex socket drive. Because they have no head, they can be screwed entirely below a surface or flush with a component face, making them essential for locking components onto rotating shafts without any protruding head to create a hazard or interference.
Primary applications include locking shaft collars, pulleys, sprockets, gears, knobs and handles onto shafts — the grub screw threads into the collar or hub wall and bears against the shaft to fix the component in position. Also used in adjustment mechanisms, depth stops and clamping applications.
POINT STYLES
Cup Point — The most common. A concave cup-shaped tip that bites into the shaft surface for a positive, bite-in grip. Good for permanent or semi-permanent installations on soft metals, plastics and hardened shafts.
Flat Point — A flat, blunt tip for use on hardened or polished shafts where shaft damage must be avoided. Lower holding force than cup point but shaft surface is protected.
Cone Point — A sharp conical tip for permanent installations into softer shaft materials. High grip but causes shaft surface damage — use only where the shaft will not be reused.
Dog Point — A short cylindrical pilot stub on the tip. Fits into a matching drilled recess in the shaft for positive mechanical location with no shaft damage and repeated assembly capability.
GRADES AND MATERIALS
Class 12.9 Black (plain finish) — Highest strength grade. Unfinished bare steel, no corrosion protection. The most common grub screw grade for general mechanical and industrial applications.
Class 12.9 Zinc Plated — Same high strength with a bright silver zinc finish for light corrosion protection in dry environments.
A2-70 G304 Stainless — For applications requiring corrosion resistance. Largely non-magnetic — A small degree of work-hardening magnetism is normal.
