An SMX polymer adhesive and sealant with a one-second immediate grab and very high bond strength, holding up to 320kg per 10cm2. The most versatile product in the range when you need something to bond and seal at once.

An SMX polymer adhesive and sealant with a Shore A hardness of 40, which makes it firm enough to walk on once cured. It can be sanded and painted, and bonds to a very wide range of substrates including damp surfaces.

Best for: trafficable expansion and pavement joints, perimeter joints, joints under waterproofing membranes, lap joints.

Pro Gaps Fill & Paint

The interior acrylic gap filler (formerly Fill & Paint Gap Filler). It dries to a firm, paintable finish, which is exactly what a silicone cannot do. Use it indoors where the joint will be painted over and movement is small.

Best for: filling cracks in plaster and concrete, gaps at skirtings, architraves and cornices, before painting.

ACRYLIC FILLER

Pro Gaps Exterior

The exterior, all-weather version of the gap filler (formerly All Weather). A flexible acrylic filler made to take weather and UV outdoors, handling joint movement up to 12.5% where the interior Fill & Paint sits around 10%.

Best for: outdoor gap filling, joints around door and window frames, sills, fascias and trims, cracks in render and concrete outside.

Surface Activator

Not a sealant - a primer and adhesion promoter you wipe on first. It cleans, degreases and activates non-porous surfaces so the sealant or adhesive that follows grips properly. It also lifts the final strength of MS and SMX based products.

Best for: prepping glass, metals, powder-coated aluminium and plastics such as PVC, ABS and PP before sealing or bonding.

How to apply it

Most sealant jobs fail on technique, not product. Follow these steps for a clean, long-lasting joint.

Step 1: cleaning the surface — 1. Clean the surface

Remove old silicone, dirt and grease. Must be clean and dry.

Step 2: masking the edges — 2. Mask the edges (optional)

Helpful if you are not experienced. Run tape both sides for a crisp line, then peel it off before the silicone dries.

Step 3: cutting the nozzle at 90 degrees — 3. Cut the nozzle at 90°

Cut straight across, sized to the joint. Start small.

Step 4: applying the bead — 4. Apply the bead

Hold the gun at about 45° and push steadily along the joint.

Step 5: tooling the bead — 5. Tool the bead

Smooth within a few minutes with a finishing tool.

Step 6: removing the tape — 6. Remove the tape

If you taped, peel it away before the silicone dries.

Step 7: allow to cure — 7. Allow to cure

Do not disturb until fully cured, often 24 hours or more.

A small, neat bead seals best. Too much looks untidy and will not seal better.

Common questions

Choosing a product

Can I paint over silicone?

No. Paint will not adhere to a cured silicone surface, so the three silicones in this range (All Purpose, Roof & Gutter, Bathroom & Kitchen) cannot be painted. If the joint needs to be painted, use T-Rex, Multibond SMX50 or Pro Gaps Fill & Paint instead.

What is the difference between T-Rex and SMX50? They look the same.

Both are SMX polymer adhesive-sealants, so both bond and seal and both are paintable. The difference is the job. T-Rex has a one-second grab and holds heavy items in place immediately, so it suits bonding panels, mirrors and signs. SMX50 cures harder (Shore A 40) and is trafficable, so it suits floor and pavement joints you will walk over and want to sand flush.

Which one is safe on Colorbond and metal roofing?

Roof & Gutter Silicone is the one made for it, in matching Colorbond colours, with the UV resistance and elasticity an exposed metal joint needs. All Purpose Silicone also adheres to most metals if you need a different colour or are working inside.

Which gap filler do I use, inside or outside?

Pro Gaps Fill & Paint is the interior filler for cracks, skirtings and cornices, paintable in about 20 minutes and rated to around 10% movement. Pro Gaps Exterior is the outdoor version, with weather and UV resistance and higher movement to 12.5%, for exposed joints around window and door frames, sills and trims.

Do I need Surface Activator?

Not for porous or everyday surfaces. It earns its place on smooth, non-porous substrates such as glass, polished metal, powder-coated aluminium and certain plastics, where a wipe before sealing noticeably improves the bond. Contaminated or unprepared non-porous surfaces are the most common cause of a sealant lifting later.

Using it

Cartridge or sausage - what is the difference?

The product is the same. A 290ml or 300ml cartridge loads into a standard skeleton gun. A 600ml sausage gives you more than double the volume with less waste and needs a sausage gun. For larger jobs the sausage works out better value per millilitre.

What is the shelf life, and is there a warranty?

Stored unopened in a cool, dry place between 5 and 25 degrees, most of the range lasts around 12 to 15 months from manufacture, with the date printed on the cartridge or sausage. Because Soudal now fills in Australia, your stock arrives with full shelf life rather than months already lost in shipping. Soudal does not publish a fixed year guarantee the way some brands do, since real-world durability depends on correct surface prep and joint design, but every product is formulated to the relevant standards. As with everything we sell, you are covered by Australian Consumer Law, so if a product reaches you faulty or out of date, just start a return.

Do Soudal colours match Colorbond?

Yes. The All Purpose and Roof & Gutter silicones come in colours matched to common Colorbond metal profiles, with 18 in the All Purpose range. Soudal's colour name does not always read the same as the Colorbond name, but each one is formulated to match the profile. If you know your Colorbond colour, ask us and we will point you to the matching silicone.

Is Soudal silicone made in Australia?

Yes. Soudal now fills its trade silicones here in Australia following a major local investment, rather than importing every cartridge from Europe. That flows straight through to you: fresher stock with full shelf life, much shorter lead times (down from around three months to days or weeks), supply that is not exposed to overseas shipping disruptions, and a lower carbon footprint from cutting out long-haul freight.

Is Soudal a premium product?

Yes. Soudal is a professional, trade-grade brand rather than a budget filler. The same range is specified across high-end construction, industrial manufacturing, fabrication, building and repair, backed by Soudal's own research and development and the SMX hybrid polymer technology behind products like T-Rex and Multibond SMX50. How big is Soudal worldwide?

Which Soudal product should I use on a caravan or RV?

Use a neutral cure silicone, not an acetoxy one, because neutral cure will not corrode the metals or attack the plastics common on caravans and RVs. All Purpose Silicone suits general sealing and bedding in matching colours, and Roof & Gutter Silicone suits the roof, seams and external panels. For bonding panels, trims and fittings during a build or repair, use T-Rex or Multibond SMX50, which grip metal, fibreglass and composite panels and stay flexible against road vibration.
