Soudal Surface Activator is a clear solvent-based primer that degreases the surface AND chemically promotes adhesion - applied before SMX50, T-Rex or any hybrid polymer sealant on non-porous substrates.
- Degreaser + adhesion promoter in one - replaces the separate clean-and-prime step.
- For non-porous substrates - glass, polished metal, mirror backing, powder-coated panels, glazed ceramic.
- Quick-flash solvent - apply with a lint-free cloth, let it flash off (typically 5-10 minutes), then apply the sealant within the open time.
- 500ml tin - a single tin primes hundreds of metres of joint.
Good to know Best for: every job where SMX50 or T-Rex meets a non-porous substrate. SKIP if your substrate is timber, concrete, plaster, raw masonry or unsealed stone - those are porous and the hybrid polymers grip directly. Test on the substrate before priming large areas - some painted finishes can soften.
Frequently Asked Questions
Improves adhesion of silicone, polymer sealants and SMX/T-Rex polymer adhesives onto difficult substrates. Wipe on, allow to flash off, apply sealant within the open time window.
Sealant adhesion fails on contaminated surfaces - the most common cause of premature sealant failure on field jobs. Spend 5 minutes prepping the substrate before applying.
For a long clean bead, use a dripless cartridge gun - the cartridge stops dispensing immediately when you release the trigger, preventing over-application at the end of the run.
Cure rate varies with humidity and temperature. Higher humidity = faster cure. Below 5C the sealant may not cure at all - work in warm conditions where possible.
Test paint adhesion on a small sample before committing to a long bead.
