M10 (10mm) Round U Bolts with Plate are complete pipe-clamp sets with a stainless round U bolt, two matching hex nuts, two washers, a mounting plate and two crimps, made to the Inox World Standard.

About Round U Bolts with Plate

Round U Bolts with Plate are complete pipe-clamp sets: a round-bend U bolt, two matching hex nuts, two washers, a mounting plate with pre-drilled bolt holes and two crimps. The crimps are curved saddles that sit between the plate and the pipe - they stop the plate sliding down the pipe under load and spread the clamping force across a wider arc. Used to clamp round pipe, tube, conduit or rod to a flat surface without site-fabricating a backing plate. Sold as a single SKU so the plate, U bolt, nuts, washers and crimps are all matched for size and finish. Made to the Inox World Standard in stainless A2-70 G304 for outdoor, food-grade, marine and chemical-exposure use.

Not sure if this is the right U bolt?
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know.
1If you have the pipe or tube

Measure the outside diameter of the pipe, tube or shaft, then pick a U bolt whose Inside Width (W) matches or just clears it. The W value is printed in every product name (e.g. '40mm Inside (W)'), and the Length (L) is the leg length that passes through your plate or bracket.

2If you have a U bolt in hand

Three numbers identify it: the inside width between the legs (measured across the straight section, not the bend), the leg length from the crown down, and the diameter across the thread. Our step-by-step guide shows all three with drawings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this used for?
A round-bend U bolt supplied as a complete set: the U bolt, two hex nuts, two washers, a mounting plate and two crimps (curved saddles). Used to clamp round pipe, tube, conduit or rod to a flat surface.

The plate gives a fixed mounting footprint and bolt-hole pattern so the U bolt can be fitted to a beam, bracket or chassis without site-fabricating a backing plate. The crimps sit between the plate and the pipe - they stop the plate sliding down the pipe under load and spread the clamping force across a wider arc. Sold as a complete set so the U bolt, nuts, washers, plate and crimps are all matched for size and finish.

What do Inside (W) and Length (L) mean?
Inside (W) is the gap between the two legs of the U bolt. Length (L) is the overall length from the top of the bend to the end of the threaded leg.

Inside (W) refers to the gap between the two legs of the U bolt, measured across the bend. Length (L) is the overall length of the U bolt from the top of the bend to the end of the threaded leg. Match W to the outside diameter of the pipe being clamped, and L so the threaded section clears the plate and nuts with room to engage the thread fully.

What does the plate and crimps do?
The plate gives a flat mounting footprint with two pre-drilled holes for the U bolt legs. The crimps are curved saddles that sit between the plate and the pipe - they stop the plate sliding down the pipe under load and spread the clamping force across a wider arc.

Bolt the plate to your bracket, beam or chassis, slip the U bolt around the pipe and through the plate with a crimp on each side, then torque the two nuts (with the supplied washers under each nut) to lock everything in place. Sold as a complete set so the U bolt, nuts, washers, plate and crimps are all matched for size and finish.

What is the strength rating of this U bolt?
Stainless A2-70 G304. Property class 70 (700 MPa minimum tensile).

See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table.

What standard is this manufactured to?
Manufactured to Made to Inox World Standard.

U bolts are not covered by a single Australian Standard. BNA stocks U bolts made to the Hobson Engineering Standard for the round and square ranges, and to the Inox World Standard for the stainless Round with Plate range. Both are supplier-published specifications that define the bend radius, leg length, thread engagement and material grade for each size.

Is this suitable for outdoor or wet use?
Yes. Stainless steel U bolts are rated for outdoor, wet, marine and chemical-exposure service.

A4-70 G316 (the Round with Plate variant uses A2-70 G304) resists chloride corrosion and is the preferred grade within 300 m of the coast. The 2 to 3 percent molybdenum content in A4 grade resists pitting in seawater spray.

What spanner / driver size do I need for the nuts?
Refer to the technical specifications table above for the spanner / driver size.

The specs table directly above this description lists the drive type and across-flats (AF) size for this product.

Material & Coating

Stainless A2-70 G304 Austenitic stainless steel. Property class 70 designates a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa with a 0.2 percent proof stress of 450 MPa. Lightly magnetic in cold-worked form, which does not affect corrosion performance.

Important Do not pair stainless fasteners with plain or galvanised steel components in wet service. The galvanic potential difference accelerates corrosion of the less-noble metal.

Class Stainless fasteners are classified by property class: A2-35 / A2-50 / A2-70 in G304 stainless, and A4-40 / A4-70 / A4-80 (Bumax 88) in G316. The first digit indicates the alloy and the second is the minimum tensile strength in 100 MPa increments (e.g. A4-70 = 700 MPa). See the head marking chart and full strength table.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 1.50mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 1.50mm apart.

How to Measure

Three numbers The inside width between the legs (measured across the straight section, not the bend), the leg length from the inside crown of the bend to the leg end, and the diameter across the outside of the thread - expect the reading a touch under the nominal size (an M10 reads between about 9.7mm and 10mm). The identification box near the top of this page shows all three on the drawing, and our U bolt measuring guide walks through them step by step.
