How to measure washers
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know.
1If you know your bolt size

Washers are named by the bolt they fit: an M10 washer suits an M10 bolt. The inside diameter is slightly larger than the bolt so it slides on. Our guide covers every size and washer type we stock.

2If you have a washer in hand

Measure the inside diameter (ID), outside diameter (OD) and thickness, as shown in the drawing.

KEY ADVANTAGES

Will not loosen under severe vibration or heavy dynamic loads. Reliable locking even for joints with short clamp length. Quick to install and remove with standard tools. Audible click when untightening confirms correct installation. High corrosion resistance with the Delta Protekt® coating system.

MATERIALS

High Tensile Steel with Delta Protekt® Zinc Flake — The standard Nord-Lock® finish. Excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for outdoor and demanding industrial environments.

A4-70 G316 Marine Grade Stainless — For coastal, food processing, chemical, and other corrosion-critical applications. Largely non-magnetic.

SIZES

NL3 through NL30 covering M3 to M30 bolt sizes. Each washer is supplied as a glued pair — do NOT separate them before installation.

WHEN TO SPECIFY NORD-LOCK®

Use Nord-Lock® where joint failure has serious consequences — heavy machinery, rotating equipment, mining, rail, and any structural connection subject to vibration or dynamic loading. They cost more than spring or tooth washers, but the failure mode of those simpler washers is to slowly back off without warning.

Nord-Lock® wedge-locking washers secure bolts with tension instead of friction. The system uses a matched pair of washers with cams on one side and radial teeth on the other — when installed, the cams interlock with a steeper angle than the bolt thread, so any attempt to back the bolt out instead increases tension. The joint cannot loosen under vibration alone.
