About Bit Holders
1/4 inch hex shank bit holders with C-ring or magnetic retention. The holder chucks into the driver and accepts a 1/4 inch hex insert bit at the working end. Use a bit holder to extend reach, swap bits without re-chucking, or magnetically retain the screw against the bit during start-up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Distinct from socket adapters which convert 1/4" hex to square drive. A bit holder accepts a 1/4" hex bit at BOTH ends - the driver chuck end and the working end. Magnetic holders also retain the screw head against the bit so you can start the screw one-handed.
Magnetic vs C-ring retention: magnetic suits small fasteners and one-handed start-up; C-ring suits high-torque work where magnetic pull might dislodge the bit.
For impact-driver use, prefer C-ring holders over magnetic - the C-ring's mechanical retention is more reliable under sustained impact than the magnetic field.
Replace the holder when bit retention becomes unreliable. Cleaning the magnet with a brush or solvent restores some pull but not all of it.
How to Measure
Format Bit holders carry a 1/4" hex shank at both ends - the chuck end fits any standard driver, the working end accepts any 1/4" hex insert bit. C-ring or magnetic retention holds the bit. Length options: 54mm short, 65mm to 100mm+ for recessed work.
How to measure a driver bit Pick the bit by the working-end shank format (1/4" hex insert, magnetic vs C-ring retention). The shank is the bit's clamping end - 1/4" hex is the universal standard across cordless drivers, impact drivers and bit holders. The overall length determines reach: 25mm insert for general use, 50mm to 90mm power bits with a torsion zone for impact drivers, 116mm for Hilti autofeed, long-shank Allen keys for recessed socket cap screws. Cross-check the tip dimension against the screw head before driving - an undersized bit cams out and strips the recess.
Measurements Accurate to the relevant standard and should be used as a guide only. They are either hand-measured or taken from suppliers' catalogues. We only stock Alpha for this product; substituting another brand is rare and would always be confirmed with you first.
Magnetism
This product is magnetised. The tip / cup retains a fastener through alignment and engagement, which speeds work in overhead, awkward or one-handed install scenarios. Across the wider Driving range, magnetised bits, holders and nutsetters speed install by holding the fastener on the tip through alignment; non-magnetised tools are preferred for electronics, magnetic-sensor proximity and any work where stray magnetism on the fastener would cause downstream issues. Check the specification table above for the per-SKU value before ordering for magnetism-sensitive applications.
