Assortment kits are bought across every trade where time-to-fastener is more valuable than the per-piece cost of loose stock. The common buyer profiles:

WHAT IS INSIDE AN ASSORTMENT KIT
Every assortment kit ships in a labelled compartmented case so each size has its own slot. The compartments are sized to the part count, so re-loading the kit from loose stock is straightforward when one size depletes.
Size coverage: the kit title states the piece count (30, 65, 84, 200, 500, 1000-piece etc). The piece count reflects roughly the number of compartments times the typical fill of each compartment. A 30-piece bolt kit typically covers 10 sizes at 3 pieces each; a 1000-piece master case typically covers 40 to 60 sizes at 15 to 25 pieces each.
Material and finish: most assortment kits are zinc plated carbon steel for indoor / general use. Stainless steel kits are available across the more common sub-categories for outdoor and marine work. Always check the kit description for finish before buying for an outdoor / wet / coastal application.
Documentation: kits ship with the standard product specifications table accessible via the product page. Match the size you need from the kit against the specification table before installing in a critical joint. For structural / load-rated applications, confirm the kit's Class rating matches the application.

KIT VS LOOSE STOCK - WHEN A KIT MAKES SENSE
The per-piece cost in an assortment kit is typically higher than buying the same size in a bulk pack of loose stock. Kits make sense for one of three reasons:
You don't know which size you'll need. A mobile mechanic doesn't know if the next job calls for M6 or M10. A kit covers both for less than the cost of buying both as bulk packs.
You use many sizes in low volume. A workshop that installs 5 of each size per week across 12 sizes doesn't justify a bulk pack of any one size, but a kit covers all 12 at the right total volume.
Compartmented organisation matters. A kit's labelled compartments save the 30 seconds per fastener of digging through a single bag of loose stock. Across a working week, the time saved typically pays for the kit-versus-loose price premium.
For high-volume single-size use (50+ of one size per week), buy that size as bulk loose stock and keep the kit for variability cover. Most workshops settle into a kit-plus-bulk hybrid after a few months of use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I pick the right size kit?
Match the piece count to the variety of sizes you expect to use, not the total volume. A 30-piece kit covers about 10 sizes; a 100-piece kit covers about 25 sizes; a 500 to 1000-piece master case covers 40 to 60 sizes. If you only use 5 sizes regularly, a 30-piece kit plus bulk loose stock of those 5 sizes is more cost-effective than a 500-piece master case.
What finish should I pick - zinc, stainless or something else?
For indoor and general workshop use, zinc plated is the cost-effective choice. For outdoor, wet, or coastal use, choose stainless 304 (or stainless 316 for severe marine within 1km of breaking surf). For high-temperature applications (exhaust, engine internals above 300 degrees C) look at the Manifold Studs kit specifically - standard zinc and stainless are not rated for that service temperature.
Can I mix metric and imperial sizes in one kit?
Most assortment kits are single-system - either metric or imperial - because the size labelling on the compartments has to match a single standard. Some larger master cases cover both systems by allocating separate compartments to each. Check the kit description for the size system before buying.
What if my kit runs out of one size before the others?
Restock the depleted size from the matching main-category page. The 13 sub-cats listed above each cross-link to the right main category - Bolts kit to Bolts, Washers kit to Washers etc - where loose-stock single sizes are stocked in bulk packs.
Is the kit case worth the extra cost?
The labelled compartmented case is what makes the kit faster to work from than a single bag of loose stock. The case itself costs a few dollars at supplier level; if the case is the only difference from loose stock, the premium is small. Lost time finding the right size from a single bag dwarfs the case premium across the kit's working life.
Do assortment kits ship with the matched tools (drivers, keys, sockets)?
Some do, some don't. Socket Screws kits often ship with the matched hex key set in the kit case. Driver Bits kits are the bits alone. Self drilling screw kits and rivet kits do NOT include the driver or the riveter; those are sold separately. Check the kit description for the 'includes' line before assuming the tools are in the box.
What is the kit Class or grade?
For structural and load-rated work, the Class rating of the fasteners in the kit matters. Most general-assembly kits are Class 4.6 (mild steel) or Class 8.8 (medium-carbon alloy steel). Socket screw kits are typically Class 12.9 (high-strength alloy). Stainless kits are typically A2-70 (304) or A4-70 (316). Confirm the Class on the kit description before installing in a load-bearing joint.
How do I identify which size in the kit I need?
For bolts and screws, measure the diameter at the thread (not the head) and the length from under the head to the tip (countersunk: from the top of the head to the tip). Are these kits assembled in Australia or imported ready-made?
Assembled right here in Australia. We do not import ready-made kits.
