Turnbuckles

Turnbuckles are the standard adjustable-tension fitting for cable, rod and rope rigging. The body has a left-hand thread one end and right-hand the other; turning the body draws both end fittings together and develops tension. Eye-and-eye is the default end-fitting form; jaw-and-jaw and other variants exist for specific applications.

Stainless A4-70 G316 Eye & Eye turnbuckles in M4 through M16 metric thread. Body lengths from 55mm through 250mm. Most common sizes: M5 x 70mm (light rigging), M6 x 90mm (general work), M8 x 130mm (medium), M10 x 160mm (heavy).

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Stainless A4-70 G316 (marine grade): 700 MPa minimum tensile, 316-family austenitic stainless with added molybdenum (2-3%) for chloride-pitting resistance. The standard for direct saltwater exposure, ocean spray, chlorinated pool plant and food-grade processing. Largely non-magnetic - cold-formed sections may show slight residual magnetism from manufacture.

INSTALLATION AND USE

Open the body to mid-position (both end fittings half-extended). Connect the eyes to the rigging hardware - shackles, eye bolts, pad eyes or directly to wire rope thimbles. Tighten the body to develop tension. For permanent-tension applications, fit a lock-nut or wire-mouse the body to prevent backing off under vibration.

A NOTE ON GALLING

Stainless threads can gall under tension - apply a thin film of nickel-based anti-seize from the Anti-Seize range to the male thread before assembly. Tighten slowly, never with an impact driver.

SIZE AND WLL

M4 = ~70kg WLL, M5 = ~130kg, M6 = ~200kg, M8 = ~400kg, M10 = ~600kg, M12 = ~900kg, M16 = ~1500kg (typical stainless figures - confirm per-SKU). The body length determines the adjustment range, not the load rating.
