1If you have a screw in hand

Measure across the outside of the thread - not the shank - to get the gauge (an 8g screw measures about 4.2mm). Screw gauges have a wider tolerance than bolts, so treat it as a close match rather than exact. Then measure the length - countersunk timber screws are measured overall, head included.

Every product page carries a Screw Gauge and TPI chart for its range - every gauge links straight to the product. Rule of thumb for timber: coarse threads for softwood and framing, fine threads for hardwood.

Bugle batten timber screws have a curved bugle head that pulls down flush into softwood without splitting or a pre-drilled countersink. The T17 self-drilling point cuts straight in without a pilot hole, and the part-thread (smooth shank under the head) draws the board hard against the joist for a tight, rattle-free fix.

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Stocked in Class 3 and Class 4 coated carbon steel and G304 stainless. Class 4 and stainless suit treated pine and exposed outdoor work; Class 3 suits dry interior framing and battens.

DRIVE AND INSTALLATION

In-Hex (Allen) drive for high torque without cam-out - drive straight in with the T17 tip, no pilot hole needed in most softwoods. For dense hardwood, drill a small pilot to avoid snapping.

SIZE AND THREAD

Gauges 8g to 14g, lengths 30mm to 200mm. Coarse thread for grip in softwood, batten and framing timber. Match the length so at least half the screw engages the receiving timber.
