Hex Bolts & Set Screws

Compare your fastener to our visual size guide to confirm size, pitch and length.
Match your spanner / socket AF (across-flats) to the size it fits - our reference chart covers every metric and imperial size we stock.
Hex bolts and set screws are the workhorses of the bolting world — the default fastener whenever you need to clamp two parts together with a spanner or socket. We stock over 2,900 variants spanning Metric M3 to M30, UNC/UNF 1/4" to 1-1/2", BSW and BSF imperial fine threads, in fully threaded set screws and part-threaded bolts.
The technical distinction between a hex bolt and a hex set screw is the threading — a set screw is threaded all the way to the head, while a bolt has a plain shank under the head with thread only on the lower portion. Both share the same hex head and spanner sizes.
MATERIALS AND FINISHES
Stainless Steel — A2-70 G304 for general external use, A4-70 G316 for marine and coastal environments. A4-80 G316 for high-tensile stainless applications. Brass and nylon for specialist work.
Zinc Silver Plated — Economical electroplated zinc, the most common finish on internal-use carbon steel hex bolts.
Galvanised — Hot-dip galvanised for outdoor and treated-timber work where a heavier coating is required.
Plain Black Uncoated — High-tensile bare-steel finish, typically Class 8.8 and 10.9 where the customer applies their own coating.
GRADES STOCKED
Metric: Class 4.6 (low tensile), Class 8.8 (workhorse high tensile), Class 10.9 (higher yield) and A2-70 / A4-70 / A4-80 stainless. Imperial: Grade 5, Grade 8 (high tensile), with stainless and zinc options across UNC and UNF.
Sizes: M3 through M30 metric (M10, M12 and M8 are the busiest); 1/4" through 1-1/2" imperial.
Thread systems: Metric Coarse (the majority), Metric Fine, UNC, UNF, BSW Coarse and BSF Fine.
Standards: AS1110.1, AS1110.2, AS1111, AS1112, AS2465-1999, DIN931, DIN933, ANSI B18.2.1, ISO 4014, ISO 4017.
All hex bolts pair naturally with our hex nuts, structural washers, flat washers and spring washers. Pre-drilled to clearance hole sizing; refer to our Technical PDF's Library for tightening torques and clearance hole charts.
