How to measure washers
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know.
1If you know your bolt size

Washers are named by the bolt they fit: an M10 washer suits an M10 bolt. The inside diameter is slightly larger than the bolt so it slides on. Our guide covers every size and washer type we stock.

2If you have a washer in hand

Measure the inside diameter (ID), outside diameter (OD) and thickness, as shown in the drawing.

NEW STANDARD AS1252:2016

AS1252:2016 replaced the previous AS1252:1983/1996 standard. The major change is mandatory assembly testing — the bolt, nut and washer are now tested as a matched set, and the K-class identifies the assembly (K0 = standard, K1 = lubricated, K2 = preloaded). Always match washers to the same K-class as your structural bolts.

MATERIAL AND FINISH

High Tensile Class 8.8 Galvanised — 35-41 HRC hardness range. Hot-dip galvanised for corrosion resistance.

IDENTIFICATION

The three dimples on the OD distinguish structural washers from standard heavy round washers. If your washer doesn't have the dimples, it is NOT a structural-rated washer regardless of size.

HSFG (High Strength Friction Grip) structural washers have three dimples on the outside diameter to identify them as structural washers. Originally designed for structural bolts, they're now widely used with high-tensile allthread and other structural fasteners. You'll see them in steel-to-steel structural connections on buildings and bridges across Australia.
