Toggle latches are over-centre lever fittings that secure a panel or lid against its frame. The operator pulls the lever over-centre to engage; in the engaged position the lever locks against the spring force of the latch hook. Release by lifting the lever back over-centre.
Also known as: Over-Centre Latch, Hasp Latch, Adjustable Latch, Catch Latch, Stainless Toggle Latch.
Stainless A2-70 G304 adjustable toggle latches in 78-87mm and 110-120mm size ranges - the range allows fine adjustment of the latch hook position to match the actual gap between the catch and the latch body after installation.
GRADES AND MATERIALS
Stainless A2-70 G304: 700 MPa minimum tensile, 304-family austenitic stainless. The general stainless grade for sheltered marine, freshwater, inland and non-coastal outdoor use. Tea-stains in direct saltwater exposure over time - for surf-line or boat-deck use, step up to A4-70 G316. Largely non-magnetic.
INSTALLATION AND USE
Mount the latch body on one panel and the catch on the other so the hook engages the catch when the panel is closed. Bolt or rivet both halves to the substrate. Adjust the hook position so the lever pulls fully over-centre with firm engagement. Test under load - over-centre should require deliberate force to release.
A NOTE ON GALLING
Stainless threads can gall under tension - apply a thin film of nickel-based anti-seize from the Anti-Seize range to the male thread before assembly. Tighten slowly, never with an impact driver.
SIZE AND WLL
Match the size range to the gap between the catch and the latch body after install. 78-87mm range = an installation where the catch sits 78-87mm from the latch pivot. Allows for ~10mm of fine adjustment.
