Cutting Disc

Cutting discs are thin reinforced abrasive wheels for slicing through steel, stainless and tube on an angle grinder. The thin profile (1mm to 3.2mm) cuts fast with minimal heat-affected zone, and the fibreglass reinforcement carries the load that the thin disc alone could not.

Klingspor TZ Special is the BNA-stocked workhorse cutting disc - fibreglass-reinforced aluminium oxide A60 grain rated for steel AND stainless steel. Stocked sizes: 100mm x 1mm (cordless / stainless sheet), 115mm x 1mm, 125mm x 1mm, 115mm x 2.5mm and 125mm x 3.2mm for heavier section.

GRIT AND GRAIN

A60 aluminium oxide grain is the metal-and-stainless workshop default - 60-grit aluminium oxide bonded in resin and reinforced with two layers of fibreglass. The aluminium oxide is sharp enough for stainless without contaminating it (no sulphur or chlorine in the bond). For specialty cutting (aluminium, masonry, ductile iron) different grain types are stocked as special order - contact us.

USAGE AND TECHNIQUE

Hold the grinder perpendicular to the workpiece face and let the disc edge do the cutting - don't twist or pry the disc sideways while cutting (thin discs fracture under side load). Make a straight cut down the marked line; if the cut deviates, lift the disc and re-start the cut alongside the deviation rather than try to correct mid-cut. The 1mm disc cuts cleanest on stainless sheet; 2.5mm and 3.2mm for general steel section work.

SAFETY AND RPM

Confirm disc max RPM is greater than or equal to grinder no-load RPM. Use the grinder guard correctly oriented. Safety glasses or face shield mandatory. Check the disc expiry date code - discard discs past their 3-year date code. Never use a damaged disc (chipped edge, cracked surface, bond degradation).
