Hinges

Fixed-pin hinges are the standard stainless hinge for box, panel, cabinet and equipment construction. Two leaves joined by a permanent pin allow the joined parts to rotate around the pin axis. Sold in pairs - the way they're used.

Also known as: Butt Hinge, Stainless Hinge, Box Hinge, Cabinet Hinge, Fixed Pin Hinge.

Stainless A2-70 G304 hinges in 50mm x 38mm x 1.4mm and 75mm x 50mm x 1.5mm sizes. The dimensions are leaf length x leaf width x leaf thickness. Each leaf has bolt-through holes for substrate mounting.

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Stainless A2-70 G304: 700 MPa minimum tensile, 304-family austenitic stainless. The general stainless grade for sheltered marine, freshwater, inland and non-coastal outdoor use. Tea-stains in direct saltwater exposure over time - for surf-line or boat-deck use, step up to A4-70 G316. Largely non-magnetic.

INSTALLATION AND USE

Mark the bolt-through holes on both substrate halves so the hinge pin axis aligns with the rotation centre. Drill clearance holes for the chosen bolt size. Bolt the leaves through using countersunk or button-head stainless screws (stainless fasteners match the hinge grade). For doors and lid applications, fit two or three hinge pairs along the rotation axis depending on load and stiffness.

A NOTE ON GALLING

Stainless threads can gall under tension - apply a thin film of nickel-based anti-seize from the Anti-Seize range to the male thread before assembly. Tighten slowly, never with an impact driver.

SIZE AND WLL

Size by leaf length - 50mm hinges for small boxes (< 300mm wide), 75mm for medium boxes and small doors. Heavier doors need larger hinges with more leaves spaced along the axis.
