Drill Bit Construction & Materials

Alpha Gold Series HSS Impact Standard M2 HSS with the Gold Series surface treatment, plus a heat-treatment that toughens the shank specifically against impact-driver shock. The cutting edge is conventional jobber geometry; the shank is the difference.

Toughened Hex Shank The shank is harder than the standard jobber shank but slightly more ductile than full-hardness, so it absorbs impact without snapping at the chuck shoulder. This is the difference between an impact-rated drill bit and a standard one.

Drive & Use

Designed for cordless drill drivers, impact drivers and quick-change holders. The 1/4-inch hex shank is the most common bit-holder format in the industry — every quick-change accessory uses it.

Drill and drive from the same tool. Drill the clearance hole with a hex-drive bit, swap to a Phillips/Square/Torx bit (also 1/4-inch hex), drive the fastener. No chuck-tightening between operations.

Standard cordless drill technique applies. Match RPM to bit diameter and material. Use cutting fluid in steel and stainless. Hex drive bits handle the same loads as a jobber of the same diameter.

Impact-driver use is fine — that's what the toughened shank is for. Standard non-impact-rated drill bits will snap at the chuck shoulder under repeated impact strokes. These won't.

Pilot hole: same rules as standard jobbers. Above 8mm, drill a 25-50% pilot first. The hex shank doesn't change drilling fundamentals.

Sizing & Measurements

Diameter range 2mm to 13mm metric. The 1/4-inch hex shank is the format limit — larger diameters move to a reduced-shank format with a round 13mm shank.

Length range 70mm-115mm overall, depending on diameter. Slightly shorter than jobber-length for site work where bit excess length adds flex in cordless tools.

Shank 1/4-inch (6.35mm) hex shank with a precision-machined quick-change detent groove. Drops into any quick-change collet or impact driver chuck with a single push, locks on the detent, releases when the collet is retracted.

1mm steps through 13mm cover every common clearance hole. M8 clearance = 9mm hex drive. M10 clearance = 11mm. M12 clearance = 13mm (the format ceiling).

For diameters above 13mm, switch to a Reduced Shank bit (in a drill driver chuck) or a Step Tip Drill Bit (for self-centring on hardened surfaces).

Hex drive shanks fit any 1/4-inch holder, including socket-style adapters, magnetic nutsetters and bit extensions. The whole impact-driver ecosystem.
