Tap Wrenches - Bar, T-Handle & Ratchet T-Handle
Tap Wrenches are the hand tool that grip a tap by its square drive shank and provide the leverage to cut an internal thread by hand. The full Alpha range covers M1 to M38 (1/16" to 1-1/2") in three handle styles.
Bar wrenches — TW-00 (M1 to M6), TW-0 (M3 to M13), TW-6 (M6 to M20), TW-7 (M10 to M25), TW-8 (M20 to M38). Long two-handed handle for maximum leverage; the workshop default.
T-handle wrenches — TW-14 (M3 to M6), TW-12 (M6 to M12). Compact T-shaped grip for hand-held work in tight spaces.
Ratchet T-handle wrenches — TW-14R, TW-12R. Ratcheting mechanism lets you tap without re-positioning the handle between strokes - faster on production runs.
Match the wrench capacity bracket to your tap's square drive shank. For one-tool-fits-most general tapping, the TW-0 (M3 to M13) covers the everyday size range. Always pair with cutting compound to extend tap life and produce a cleaner thread.

What size tap wrench do I need?
Match the wrench's capacity bracket to the tap's square drive shank. TW-00 holds M1 to M6, TW-0 holds M3 to M13, TW-6 holds M6 to M20, TW-7 holds M10 to M25, TW-8 holds M20 to M38. Don't pick a wrench too big - the jaws won't grip the tap squarely and you'll snap it.
Bar wrench vs T-handle vs ratchet T-handle?
Bar wrenches give maximum leverage and suit bench work + larger taps. T-handles are smaller and lighter for hand-held work in tight spaces. Ratchet T-handles save time on production runs by not requiring you to lift and re-position the handle between strokes.
Can I use a drill or socket wrench instead?
No. Drills spin too fast (taps cut at 50-200 RPM; drills run 500+) and break the tap. Socket wrenches don't grip the square drive correctly. Use a proper tap wrench for hand tapping.
