1If you have a screw in hand

Measure across the outside of the thread - not the shank - to get the gauge (an 8g screw measures about 4.2mm). Screw gauges have a wider tolerance than bolts, so treat it as a close match rather than exact. Then measure the length - countersunk timber screws are measured overall, head included.

Every product page carries a Screw Gauge and TPI chart for its range - every gauge links straight to the product. Rule of thumb for timber: coarse threads for softwood and framing, fine threads for hardwood.

Plasterboard & Villaboard timber screws are the dedicated fastener for fixing plasterboard, Villaboard and similar lining boards onto timber stud framing. The bugle head seats flush in the board face without tearing the paper; the fine thread cuts cleanly through softwood timber stud without splitting; the 1000-pack collated format suits production drywall installation.

6g-18 gauge (3.50mm shank) with fine thread. Lengths 25mm through 30mm. Bugle head with Phillips PH2 drive. Supplied in 1000-pack collated format for high-volume production install. Standard finish suits indoor and dry exterior work.

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Zinc Yellow (Class 2): zinc plate with a yellow chromate passivation - interior and dry, sheltered work. Galvanised (Class 3, 4, B8 and X9): galvanised finishes for exterior and structural work and treated-pine exposure - the higher the class, the harsher the environment it suits. Higher Classes and painted variants available.

DRIVE AND INSTALLATION

Drive with PH2 Phillips and a depth-stop bit attachment at 1500-2500 RPM. The depth-stop ensures the bugle head seats 1-2mm below the board paper surface consistently - the critical step that prevents paper tear from over-drive or proud head from under-drive. Production drywall installers use the depth-stop on every job.

SIZE AND THREAD

6g-18 gauge (3.50mm), 25mm for 10mm board onto 70mm stud, 30mm for 13mm board onto 70mm stud or 10mm board onto 90mm stud. Fine thread holds in softwood stud without splitting.
