Pad Eyes

Pad eyes are stainless plates with a centrally welded or forged eye - bolt them through a panel, deck or substrate and the eye is a permanent anchor for ropes, slings, ties and rigging connections. The plate spreads load across the mounting substrate so the anchor doesn't pull through the panel.

Also known as: Pad Eye Strap, Deck Eye, Pad Eye Plate, Round Pad Eye.

Stainless A2-70 G304 round pad eyes in eye sizes 5mm, 6mm, 8mm and base plate diameters 33mm through 80mm. Each plate has bolt-through holes around the perimeter for substrate mounting (typically 4 mounting holes for through-bolting).

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Stainless A2-70 G304: 700 MPa minimum tensile, 304-family austenitic stainless. The general stainless grade for sheltered marine, freshwater, inland and non-coastal outdoor use. Tea-stains in direct saltwater exposure over time - for surf-line or boat-deck use, step up to A4-70 G316. Largely non-magnetic.

INSTALLATION AND USE

Mark the bolt-through holes on the substrate, drill clearance holes for the chosen bolt size, mount the pad eye with bolt-and-nut-and-washer through the panel. Use stainless fasteners matching the pad eye grade. For sandwich panels or thin substrates, fit a back plate or large fender washer on the underside to prevent pull-through under load.

A NOTE ON GALLING

Stainless threads can gall under tension - apply a thin film of nickel-based anti-seize from the Anti-Seize range to the male thread before assembly. Tighten slowly, never with an impact driver.

SIZE AND WLL

Eye size = the rigging size that fits through the eye opening. 5mm eye = 5mm rope or 5mm rigging hardware. WLL is set by the smallest dimension in the load path - eye, weld, or substrate bolt-through. Published per-SKU.
