Grinding Disc

Grinding discs are thick bonded abrasive wheels for removing metal at the disc face. Held at 25-30 degrees to the workpiece, the disc edge grinds away weld bead, weld spatter, mill scale or edge burr at a rate the thin cutting disc can't match.

Also known as: Grinding Wheel, Off-Hand Grinding Disc, Depressed Centre Wheel, A24 Disc, Weld Dressing Disc.

Klingspor Extra A24 6mm grinding discs in 100mm and 115mm sizes. A24 is 24-grit aluminium oxide - coarse and aggressive, designed for fast stock removal rather than finish quality. Use the flap disc range to follow the grinding disc and blend the surface.

GRIT AND GRAIN

A24 aluminium oxide grain - the industry-standard coarse grain for grinding discs. Resin-bonded, fibreglass-reinforced. Rated for metal and stainless. Premium ceramic grinding discs are available as special order via Contact us for production users who need 3-5x extra life on tough alloy stock.

USAGE AND TECHNIQUE

Hold the grinder at 25-30 degrees to the workpiece face. Let the disc edge grind - don't press hard, just guide the grinder along the work. Move smoothly back and forth rather than holding still in one spot (which heats the metal and the disc unnecessarily). The grinding disc removes more metal per minute than a flap disc but leaves coarser marks - follow with 60 grit flap to blend.

SAFETY AND RPM

Confirm disc max RPM equals or exceeds grinder no-load RPM. Grinder guard mandatory and oriented to deflect sparks away from the operator. Face shield over safety glasses for sustained grinding. Check date code before use.
