Drill Sets (also known as Drill Bit Set, Drill Index, 25 Piece Drill Set or Drill Case) are pre-packaged ranges of drill bits in a sorted case that covers every common hole size for general fastener clearance. Drill Bit Construction & Materials

HSS Sets Alpha Gold Series M2 high-speed steel jobber bits, 1mm to 13mm in 0.5mm steps, 25 pieces total. Standard for general steel, alloy and timber. The everyday workshop choice.

HSS Cobalt Sets Alpha M35 HSS with 5% cobalt addition. Same 25-piece range but optimised for stainless and hardened workpieces. Costs more, lasts longer in 304 and 316 stainless.

Slimbox Case Thin fold-out case, fits a tool roll or apron pocket. Lighter and slimmer than a Tuffbox. Ideal for site work where space is at a premium.

Tuffbox Case Hinge-top toolbox-style case with click closures. Heavier but more impact-resistant. Suits trade trucks, workshop drawers and toolboxes where physical protection matters.

Drive & Use

Each bit in the set is a full-spec jobber bit. Standard 135-degree split point, helical flute, plain shank. Drilling technique is the standard twist-drill protocol.

Pick the bit closest to the hole size you need; for unusual sizes the case lets you step up or down without thinking. A missing 5mm doesn't stop the job because you have 4.5mm or 5.5mm right there.

Cutting fluid in steel, dry or WD-40 in aluminium, fluid in stainless. The bits are jobber-equivalent — use them the same way.

When a bit wears out, replace just that size. The case holes are sized to the bit shank, not the cutting diameter, so an individual replacement drops straight in. The case stays useful for years even when half the bits have been swapped.

Sizing & Measurements

Diameter range 1mm to 13mm metric, in 0.5mm steps. 25 pieces total: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.5, 10.0, 10.5, 11.0, 11.5, 12.0, 12.5, 13.0.

Length range Standard jobber length (24mm-150mm depending on diameter). Each bit is full-length jobber — no compromise on flute or shank.

Shank Plain round shank matching the cutting diameter (up to 13mm). Fits any standard drill chuck.

25-piece sets cover every common bolt clearance hole through M12. M3 clearance = 3.5mm bit (in the set). M5 clearance = 5.5mm. M8 clearance = 9mm. M10 clearance = 11mm. M12 clearance = 13mm.

For sizes above 13mm, the set doesn't help — step up to individual Reduced Shank Drill Bits or Step Drills.

Cost economics: per-bit, a 25-piece set works out to 30-40% less than buying each size individually. The bigger win is workflow — no waiting for an order to arrive when the 5mm snaps mid-job.

Tuffbox vs Slimbox: pick on storage style, not on the bits themselves. The bits are the same Alpha Gold Series M2 HSS or M35 HSS Cobalt regardless of case.
