  • Nutsert Tools - Hand plier and mandrel tools for installing nutserts (rivet nuts) in M3 - M8 thread sizes. POP / Sterling brands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a hand-lever rivet tool and a lazy-tong rivet tool?

A hand-lever (single-stroke) tool sets standard 3.2mm, 4.0mm and 4.8mm pop rivets with the squeeze of one hand. A lazy-tong (scissor-action) tool multiplies the user's force and is the right choice for larger 5.0mm and 6.4mm structural rivets where a single-stroke tool can't generate enough force to break the mandrel.

Do nutsert tools come with multiple nosepieces?

Yes - the BNA nutsert tools ship with the full set of metric nosepieces (M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10) matched to the BNA nutsert range. Each nosepiece is the threaded post that engages the nutsert during set. Buying the tool with all nosepieces avoids the surprise of being unable to set a specific size on site.

What's the difference between a manual silicone gun and a ratchet gun?

Manual (rod-drive) guns use a smooth push rod - cheap, fine for occasional household use. Ratchet (toothed-rod) guns advance one tooth per trigger pull - the standard trade tool, repeatable bead pressure, suits 300ml, 400ml and 600ml cartridges. Heavy-duty trade guns add a quick-release at the back so the rod retracts in one motion when you swap cartridges.

How do I install a Drop In Anchor?

Drill the recommended hole to the correct depth (the spec sheet on every Drop In SKU page lists it). Vacuum or blow the hole clean. Drop the anchor in, smaller end first. Use the matching Drop In setting tool to drive the internal cone down - this expands the anchor into the concrete. Thread your stud or bolt in after.

What tool sets a Hollow Wall Anchor?

A dedicated Hollow Wall Anchor setting tool. The tool grips the anchor's collar and pulls the screw section back, which collapses the legs against the rear of the plasterboard to lock the anchor in place. Without the tool you can over-tighten by hand and strip the anchor before it sets properly. BNA stocks the Optee setting tool sized for both 5mm and 6mm hollow wall anchors.

Do you stock both 18mm and 25mm utility knife blades?

Yes - 18mm snap-off and 25mm snap-off blades, plus standard utility / Stanley-style blades. We also stock blades for purpose-built trade knives (carpet knife, hobby knife). Match the blade size to the knife body; using a 25mm blade in an 18mm knife isn't safe.

Is the BNA tape measure metric, imperial or both?

Sterling Ultimax tapes are double-sided metric / imperial, so the same tape reads in millimetres on one side and inches / feet on the other. Stocked in 5m, 8m and 10m lengths. Useful for trade work where drawings might be in either system.

Snips, scissors or aviation snips - which one do I need?

Match the blade to the substrate. General-purpose snips handle sheet metal up to 0.8mm and most building films. Aviation snips (green / yellow / red) cut tighter curves in steel - yellow cuts straight, green cuts a right curve, red cuts a left curve. Trade scissors are for fabric, vinyl, leather and rubber - keep them separate from your metal-cutting snips so the blades don't dull on the wrong material.

What is the Hobson Bolting Handbook?

A pocket-size reference book by Hobson Engineering covering Australian fastener standards, head and drive geometry, torque specifications, thread series tables, and material grades. The standard pocket reference for trade and engineering staff. Sized to fit in a tool-belt pouch or shirt pocket.

How do I match a nosepiece to a rivet size?

Every nosepiece is stamped with its size in inches (1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4) or mm (3.2, 4.0, 4.8, 6.4). The number is the rivet mandrel diameter, NOT the rivet body. A nutsert nosepiece is different - it's a threaded post, sized M3 / M4 / M5 / M6 / M8 / M10 to match the nutsert's internal thread. Check the stamp before swapping nosepieces on the tool.
