A security fastener is only as good as the rarity of its driver. The drives we stock cover the full spectrum: from Pin Hex and Pin Torx (common in public-realm signage and equipment) through Tri-Wing and Spanner (electrical enclosures and white goods) to One-Way and Snake-Eye (one-direction install, no field-tool removal). Choosing the Right Security Drive
Low security: Pin Hex / Pin Torx. The standard drive shape with a centre pin that blocks a normal Hex / Torx bit. Hardware-store determined attacker will find a bit eventually; casual tamperer will not. Common in playgrounds, public seating, transport infrastructure.
Medium security: Tri-Wing, Spanner (two-hole), One-Way. Drives that require a bit you can't buy from a hardware store. Used in electrical enclosures, white goods, prisons and high-vandalism public installations.
High security: Breakaway / Shear-off nuts and screws. The driver section of the fastener shears off at a designed torque, leaving a smooth head that cannot be gripped. The only way to remove is to drill the fastener out. Used on the perimeter of high-security installations.

Materials & Finishes
Stainless A2-70 G304 is the standard finish across the BNA security range. Suits all general outdoor Australian environments and the public-realm installations where security fasteners are most often used. Resists corrosion, holds the drive geometry crisp over decades (unlike galvanised, where coating build-up in the drive recess makes the bit fit imprecise).
Stainless A4-70 G316 (marine grade) is stocked for the most aggressive environments - coastal infrastructure within 300m of the sea, swimming-pool perimeter, marine vessel fittings. The molybdenum content resists chloride pitting that would eat through A2 over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the most common security drive in Australia?
Pin Torx (Torx with a centre pin blocking standard T-series bits). It's the entry-level security drive used on public seating, transport infrastructure, school playgrounds and retail signage. Specific size depends on the screw - T15, T20 and T25 Pin Torx are the typical stocked range.
Can I remove a security screw if I don't have the matching bit?
Not cleanly. The whole point of a security fastener is that the drive geometry doesn't accept a standard bit. Workarounds (drilling out, easy-outs) damage the surrounding work. Buy the matching bit from our Security Bits sub-cat at the same time as the screw.
What's the difference between Tri-Wing and One-Way?
Tri-Wing has three radial slots arranged at 120 degrees - a Tri-Wing bit installs AND removes. One-Way (sometimes called Slot Lock) is a slotted screw with chamfered edges on one side - a standard slotted bit installs by turning clockwise, but can't grip the chamfered edges to back the screw out. One-Way fastens permanently; Tri-Wing fastens reversibly.
Are stainless security screws magnetic?
A2 and A4 stainless are technically slightly magnetic after cold-work, so the screw might pick up on a strong neodymium magnet but not a regular fridge magnet. Don't expect a magnetic bit to hold the screw on its tip during installation - use a bit-holder with a sleeve or hold the screw by hand.
Will my impact driver damage a Pin Torx security screw?
Pin Torx is rated for impact-driver use, same as standard Torx. The pin doesn't add stress to the screw head. As with any drive, use the bit size that matches the recess - oversized bits cam out, undersized strip the recess. Both ruin the screw.
How do I specify a Spanner (two-hole) security screw?
Three measurements: head diameter, pin centre-to-centre spacing, pin diameter. Common Spanner sizes are #6, #8, #10 and #12 (matching the screw's gauge number). Use our spec sheet or contact us with a photo if unsure.
Can security screws be re-used after removal?
Mechanically yes, but the drive recess wears each time. After two or three removals the bit will start to slip. For applications that need regular service access, use Pin Torx (the most robust security drive) and accept that you'll replace the screws every 5-10 service cycles.
Where can I get a bit for a screw with a drive shape I can't identify?

Do you stock breakaway / shear nuts and screws?
Yes, in stainless. Breakaway fasteners shear at a designed torque, leaving a smooth head that can't be removed without drilling. See the Nuts sub-cat for shear nuts; specific breakaway screw lines are listed in Machine Screws. Pre-set torque values are listed on the spec sheet for each line.
What's the largest size you stock in security screws?
Machine screws and self-tappers up to M10 and 14g respectively. Above that size, security-drive screws are typically sourced as special-order rather than stock items - contact us with your drive and size requirement and we'll quote.
