Hex flange bolts have a six-sided head with an integrated washer face on the underside — effectively a built-in washer. The flange distributes the clamp load over a wider bearing area, reduces marking on the parent material, and removes the need for a separate flat washer in the assembly.

Serrated flange bolts go one step further: shallow teeth under the flange bite into the mating surface to resist loosening under vibration. Common in automotive, agricultural and structural steel assembly where vibration is a known risk.

MATERIALS AND FINISHES

Zinc Silver Plated — Bright silver, the default electroplated finish for internal use.

Zinc Yellow Plated — Yellow chromate finish, occasionally specified for automotive.

Stainless Steel — A2-70 G304 for external use, A4-70 G316 for marine.

Plain Black Uncoated — Used on Class 10.9 and 12.9 flange bolts.

GRADES STOCKED

Class 8.8 — The standard high-tensile flange bolt.

Class 10.9 and 12.9 — Premium high-tensile grades for demanding mechanical work.

Grade 5 — High-tensile imperial flange bolts in UNC.

Sizes: M5 through M12 are the busiest; some imperial 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8".

Standards: DIN 6921 (metric serrated), IFI 111 (imperial), JIS B1189 Type 2.

Pair with matching flange nuts for vibration-resistant assemblies. Tightening torque should be checked against the Technical PDF's Library as the flange changes the effective clamp behaviour compared to a plain hex bolt.
