Landscape Timber Screws

Landscape Timber Screws
Not sure what screw size you have or need?
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know.
1If you have a screw in hand

Measure across the outside of the thread - not the shank - to get the gauge (an 8g screw measures about 4.2mm). Screw gauges have a wider tolerance than bolts, so treat it as a close match rather than exact. Then measure the length - countersunk timber screws are measured overall, head included.

2If you know the gauge

Every product page carries a Screw Gauge and TPI chart for its range - every gauge links straight to the product. Rule of thumb for timber: coarse threads for softwood and framing, fine threads for hardwood.

T17 timber screw - gauge is measured across the thread.

Landscape timber screws are the heavy-duty fastener for retaining wall, railway sleeper, garden bed and large-section timber construction. 16-gauge shank, oversized washer head and 75-200mm length cover the loads and stack heights typical for landscape work. The large washer face spreads load across the timber without pull-through under loaded conditions.

Also known as: Sleeper Screw, Retaining Wall Screw, Garden Bed Screw, Heavy Bugle Batten, Landscape Bugle Screw.

16g (6.3mm) shank with part-thread configuration, large washer head with In-Hex (5mm) drive. Lengths 75mm, 100mm, 125mm, 150mm and 200mm cover the full range of landscape timber thicknesses. Galvanised Class 3 finish.

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Galvanised (Class 3, 4, B8 and X9): galvanised finish for landscape exterior use - Class 3 for general exterior, stepping up to Class 4, B8 or X9 for long-term treated-pine sleeper or below-DPC construction, or stainless equivalents (special order via Contact us).

DRIVE AND INSTALLATION

Drive with an In-Hex (5mm) bit in a high-torque powered driver - impact driver or 18V drill in low gear. Pre-drill 75-80% pilot in hardwood sleepers to prevent splitting at board ends. The part-thread design lets the top board pull tight to the sleeper or joist below.

SIZE AND THREAD

16g shank, 75mm for 25mm board on 75mm sleeper, 100mm for 35mm board on 100mm sleeper, 150mm and 200mm for double-sleeper or stacked-sleeper retaining wall construction. Match length so 30-50mm of thread engagement extends into the base timber.
