Washers are named by the bolt they fit: an M10 washer suits an M10 bolt. The inside diameter is slightly larger than the bolt so it slides on. Our guide covers every size and washer type we stock.
Measure the inside diameter (ID), outside diameter (OD) and thickness, as shown in the drawing.
TYPICAL USES
Plumbing pipe unions and threaded joints. Heat insulation in fastener assemblies. Electrical insulation in large machine assembly, such as motor winding work. Mechanical spacers where light compression is needed.
MATERIAL
Red Vulcanised Fibre — A paper-based pressed-and-cured material. Inexpensive, lightweight, conformable. Not suitable for high-temperature or aggressive chemical service.
SIZE NOTES
Sized to HEC Standard with the bolt or thread size at the start of the description. Single-use — keep a spare on hand if you anticipate breaking the joint.

Red fibre washers are one of the cheapest conformal elastomer-like gaskets for sealing pipe unions and general plumbing work. They swell slightly when wet, forming a good seal in threaded pipe joints. They can also be used with hydrocarbons provided the temperature isn't too high. Unlike rubber, fibre washers are considered a single-use item — replace each time the joint is broken.
