1If you have a screw in hand

Measure across the outside of the thread - not the shank - to get the gauge (a 10g screw measures about 4.8mm). Screw gauges have a wider tolerance than bolts, so treat it as a close match rather than exact. Then measure the length for your head type.

2If you know the gauge

Every product page carries a Screw Gauge and TPI chart for its range - every gauge links straight to the product. For metal: coarse threads bite and hold thin sheet; fine threads (higher TPI) give more grip in thicker steel.

Countersunk-with-wings screws solve the composite metal-on-timber fastening problem: the under-head wings ream a clean countersink in the timber face as the screw drives, then snap off at first contact with the steel below so the head can seat flush in both timber and steel. The result is a single fastener that bridges timber-clad-onto-steel without splitting the timber or leaving a head proud.

10g-16 gauge in Square (SQ2) drive, lengths 30-40mm. Coarse self drilling thread, Tek 3 drill point. Galvanised Class 3 finish. The wings on the underside of the head are designed to ream softwood and hardwood timber - they shear off cleanly when the wings strike steel.

GRADES AND MATERIALS

Zinc Yellow (Class 2): zinc plate with a yellow chromate passivation - Class 2 corrosion rating for interior and dry, sheltered work. Galvanised (Class 3, 4, B8 and X9): galvanised and heavy-coated finishes for exterior, structural and coastal exposure - the higher the class, the harsher the environment it suits. Both use a Class-rated steel core for high pull-out and shear strength. The under-head wings are stamped pressed and case-hardened so they shear cleanly at the steel contact without bending or shearing the screw shank itself.

DRIVE AND INSTALLATION

Drive with an SQ2 square-drive bit at 1500-2000 RPM in a powered driver. The wings cut the timber countersink as the screw runs through - keep the driver perpendicular to the timber face to ensure a clean reamed countersink. The wings break off in the cladding void as the screw enters the steel. The head seats flush in the timber face.

SIZE AND DRILL CAPACITY

10g-16 gauge, 30-40mm lengths cover the composite stack: 5-10mm timber lining + steel host + 5-8mm engagement. For deeper timber over deeper steel, contact us via Contact for special-order longer wing screws.
