Description

Hex Set Screws are fully threaded with a hexagon head. A hex set screw has full thread right up to the underside of the head, if you require an unthreaded section (called shank) then you need to search for a hex bolt. Hex set screws are often threaded into something such as a piece of machinery, rather than being used with a nut
Material / Coating: Zinc Plated is the most common fastener of plating due to its the low cost and shinny bright silver finish. A thin layer of zinc is applied by either electroplating or mechanically
Grade v Class Difference: Metric fastenings are referred to as classes and imperial as grade. Both generally have head markings to determine grade and class. These bolts will have 10.9 stamped on them indicating 10.9 and are stronger then 8.8 high tensile. Imperial have either 3 lines for grade 5 and 5 lines for grade 8, both are regarded as high tensile.
Material Strength: Set Screw are made to class strength 10.9. They have a min yield strength of 940 and a min tensile strength is 1040 Mpa
Thread Pitch (Metric): Pitch means the distance between the peaks of two threads along a screw, bolt, or fastener expressed in millimetres (mm). Used when referring to Metric parts. For example, a thread pitch of 1.50mm means that the distance between one thread and the next is 1.50mm
Fastener Length: Is generally measured from the point where the surface of the material will be when the fastener is installed to the end of the fastener. Thus, fasteners with heads that sit above the surface are measured from under the head to the end of the fastener, while fasteners that sit flush with the surface are measured from the top of the head to the end of the fastener
