About Countersunk Head Socket Screws
Countersunk Head Socket Screws have a flat conical head with a hex socket (Allen key) drive, sitting flush with the work face after install in a matching countersunk hole. Combines the flush finish of a CSK screw with the high install torque of an Allen drive. Used on machine guards, removable panels, jigs and fixtures where the work face must be smooth and the joint sees high clamp load. Manufactured to DIN 7991 (metric) or ANSI B18.3 with ASTM F835 (imperial).
Recommended use Indoor, oiled or sacrificial-wear applications where the fastener is replaced periodically. Common in machinery internals, ground-engaging equipment subject to wear, and any high-tensile assembly that will be painted, oiled or sealed after install.
Compare your fastener to our visual size guide to confirm M-size, pitch and length.
Match your Allen / hex key AF (across-flats) to the screw size it fits. Our reference chart covers every metric and imperial size we stock.
Frequently Asked Questions
Combines the flush finish of a countersunk slot screw with the high install torque of an Allen drive. Used on machine guards, removable panels, jigs, fixtures and any joint that must be smooth on the work face but still tightened to high torque.
Drive these with a matching spanner, socket or driver bit. Using an undersized tool will strip the drive recess.
Use a countersink bit matched to the screw size. The head should sit just below or flush with the work face when fully tightened. Too shallow a countersink leaves the head proud; too deep weakens the bearing area and lets the screw pull through.
See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table and head markings.
DIN 7991 is the international standard for the countersunk hex socket screw. The matching imperial standard is ANSI B18.3 / ASTM F835.
Picked over a countersunk slot or Phillips screw whenever the joint needs more clamp load than a screwdriver drive can apply.
Material & Coating
Plain Black Uncoated Carbon steel. No corrosion protection. The dark colour is a thin oxide layer from the heat treatment process, not a corrosion barrier. Appearance varies from light grey to dark black across batches due to the heat treatment process, so colour consistency is not guaranteed between orders.
Important Will corrode rapidly in any wet or humid environment. NOT suitable for outdoor or coastal use without a separate coating.
Class Metric fasteners are classified as class 2, 4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, 14.9. See the head marking chart and full strength table.
Thread Pitch & Terminology
Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 2.00mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 2.00mm apart.
How to Measure
Fastener Length This product has a flush-fitting head, so the length is measured as the overall length - from the tip of the thread to the top of the head. The head is included in the size.
Thread Length On a screw the thread length runs from the start of the unthreaded section (called the shank) to the end of the thread. To view the thread length for this product, select a length above.
