Description
- Wafer Head Self Drilling Screwshas a low profile rounded head with a flat underside giving optimal load bearing in situations where there is restricted head room eg, fastening of concealed clips. Commonly used to when fixing into metal. Self drilling point designed for fast driving into light gauge sheeting, cladding panels, sections and assemblies.
- Installation: Easy to install using a SQ2 impact rated square driver bit in a impact power tool, a large range of bits are available in the drilling driving tools section of our website.
- Material / Coating: Excellent grade for self-drillng screws due to its hardness. It is a magnetic stainless steel, hardened by heat treatment (which garde G304 and G316 cannot be). For this reason, it has excellent drilling properties – however G410 has lower corrosion resistance than G304 and G316 and should not be used in highly or even moderately corrosive environments or tea-staining will result
- Can Stainless corrode?: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof and corrosion can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. The use of tools and drills made from conventional steel during the installation of stainless steel fasteners may also lead to problems. Even the hardest of tools can produce debris that leaves minute steel particles on the stainless steel fastener surfaces or in pre-drilled holes. It is these particles that often rust when exposed to moisture or oxygen and can result in a stained or tarnished finish to the stainless steel material
- What does TPI stand for?: TPI stands for “threads per inch” which literally means the number of threads within each inch on a screw, a bolt, or a fastener. To determine the TPI of a screw, count the number of threads contained within an inch of length on the fastener. If the screw is less than an inch count ½” of an inch and multiply by 2
- Length of Thread: Always choose a self driller with enough threads to fully engage in the base metal. For attachments to 1/4" base steel, a self-drilling screw should have at least 1/4" of threads. It is helpful, but not critical, that the threads also engage in the material being fastened. The head of the fastener provides the bearing force for the material being fastened, while the threads provide the clamping force in the base material
- Thread Length: Thread lengths have been included as a guide only. Due to stock being sourced from multiple suppliers variations do exist. We will always ship the same brand and thread length but subsequent orders may be another brand and the thread length may be different. If thread length is critical, please message us prior to ordering as we are happy to physically check our stock and advise prior to shipping
- Drill Point Style: A twist drill style hardened point for fast driving into light gauge sheeting, cladding panels, sections and assemblies. The length of the drilling flutes determine the amount of drilling swaft that can be expelled and therefore the depth of metal can be drilled
- Need a Driver Bit?: A large range of suitable driver bits are available in the "Driving" section of our website
- Measurements: Every effort has been made to ensure all measurements on our site are accurate and to the relevant standard, they should only be used as a guide. If you see a problem with our specifications please contact us
- Dimensions: Our stock is sourced from various suppliers, therefore differences may exist between batches such as height, length, width, head style, visible stamped markings, appearance or actual finish
- Photos: are of the product but may not be the actual diameter, length, thread length, colour you require, always refer to the size in the description and additional specifications data provided prior to ordering
