M6 (6mm) x 1.00p Metric Coarse Button Head Socket Screws are low-profile rounded-head Allen-drive machine screws for decorative or moderate-load assemblies where the head will be visible.

About Button Head Socket Screws

Button Head Socket Screws have a low-profile rounded dome head with a hex socket (Allen key) drive. Lower head profile than a socket cap screw and a softer visual finish than a countersunk, used where the bolt head will be visible but the customer wants minimal protrusion. Lower install torque rating than a socket cap (about 70 to 80 percent at the same diameter), so use for decorative or moderate-load assemblies rather than maximum-clamp joints. Manufactured to ISO 7380 (metric) or ANSI B18.3 (imperial).

Recommended use Indoor, oiled or sacrificial-wear applications where the fastener is replaced periodically. Common in machinery internals, ground-engaging equipment subject to wear, and any high-tensile assembly that will be painted, oiled or sealed after install.

Not sure if this is the right size or thread?
Two ways to confirm before you order - whichever you already know about your fastener.
1If you know the fastener diameter

Compare your fastener to our visual size guide to confirm M-size, pitch and length.

2If you have the Allen key

Match your Allen / hex key AF (across-flats) to the screw size it fits. Our reference chart covers every metric and imperial size we stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an M6 (6mm) Button Head Socket Screw?
A socket screw with a low-profile rounded dome head and a hex socket (Allen key) drive. Lower head profile than a socket cap, softer visual finish than a flush countersunk.

Used where the head will be visible but the customer wants minimal protrusion. The dome shape is also less likely to snag than a tall cap head. Common in decorative joinery, frames, brackets, exposed electronics enclosures.

What Allen key size do I need for an M6 (6mm) Button Head Socket Screw?
Drive type: Internal Hex. Driver bit size: 4mm.

Drive these with a matching spanner, socket or driver bit. Using an undersized tool will strip the drive recess.

Is the torque rating of an M6 (6mm) Button Head lower than an M6 (6mm) Socket Cap Screw?
Yes. The shallower socket and reduced head wall thickness give a button head about 70 to 80 percent of the install torque rating of a same-diameter socket cap screw.

Don't substitute a button head where a socket cap was specified for high-clamp joints. For moderate-load decorative or visible applications, button heads are ideal.

What strength class is this M6 (6mm) Button Head Socket Screw?
Class 12.9. Yield 1080 MPa, ultimate tensile 1200 MPa.

See the head marking chart and full strength table on our site for the full conversion table and head markings.

What standard is an M6 (6mm) Button Head Socket Screw manufactured to?
Manufactured to ISO 7380.

ISO 7380 covers the button head hex socket screw. ISO 7380-2 covers the flanged button variant. ANSI B18.3 / ASTM F835 is the matching imperial standard.

Where are button heads typically used?
Decorative joinery, exposed frame and bracket assembly, panel work, electronics housings, motorbike accessories and any visible moderate-load joint.

Picked over a socket cap whenever the bolt head will be on display and the cleaner dome shape suits the look of the assembly.

Material & Coating

Plain Black Uncoated Carbon steel. No corrosion protection. The dark colour is a thin oxide layer from the heat treatment process, not a corrosion barrier. Appearance varies from light grey to dark black across batches due to the heat treatment process, so colour consistency is not guaranteed between orders.

Important Will corrode rapidly in any wet or humid environment. NOT suitable for outdoor or coastal use without a separate coating.

Class Metric fasteners are classified as class 2, 4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, 14.9. See the head marking chart and full strength table.

Thread Pitch & Terminology

Thread Pitch (Metric) Metric fasteners measure thread pitch as the distance between thread peaks, expressed in millimetres. Metric also branches into three series: coarse (the default; widest tolerance, easiest to tap), fine (a tighter pitch for higher clamp load or thinner walls), and extra fine (the tightest pitch, used for thin-wall tube, precision instruments, and aerospace fittings where vibration loosening must be minimised). Always match the series as well as the size - a metric fine nut will not engage a metric coarse bolt of the same diameter, and an extra fine nut will not engage either. This product has a 1.00mm coarse pitch, meaning the peaks are 1.00mm apart.

How to Measure

Fastener Length This product has a head that sits on top of the material, so the length is measured from directly under the head to the tip of the thread. The head itself is not included in the size.

Thread Length On a screw the thread length runs from the start of the unthreaded section (called the shank) to the end of the thread. To view the thread length for this product, select a length above.
