PZ3 75mm Pozi Bits are 1/4 inch hex shank cross-recess driver bits with the Pozidriv four-rib tip. The four small radial ribs between the cross arms engage matching slots in the screw recess and resist cam-out under torque.

About Pozi Bits

Pozidriv is an evolution of the Phillips drive, designed to deliver the same self-centring engagement without the deliberate cam-out behaviour. Where a Phillips bit slips at the rated torque, a Pozi bit holds and continues driving. Pozi is the standard cross-recess on European-made screws (Spax, Reisser, Heco-Topix) and most treated-timber assembly and decking fasteners sold in Australia. A Phillips bit will engage a Pozi recess but cam out under load; a Pozi bit driven into a Phillips recess will damage the four cross arms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this and where does it fit?
A Pozidriv (PZ) cross-recess driver bit. Visually similar to a Phillips bit but with four small radial ribs between the cross arms that resist cam-out under torque.

Standard on European-made screws (Spax, Reisser, Heco-Topix) and most treated-timber assembly screws sold in Australia. A PH bit in a PZ recess will cam out under load; a PZ bit in a PH recess will round out the Phillips recess.

What size do I need?
This bit is a PZ3. PZ3 fits #14 and larger screws - structural and heavy assembly work. Pozi bits are sized PZ1, PZ2 and PZ3 by tip dimension.

Look at the number printed on the screw head (PH2, PZ2 etc) - that IS the bit size. If no number is visible, trial-fit at the lowest size that engages the full recess without forcing. The bit should slide in by hand and seat at the bottom of the recess with no rotational play.

Why does my bit keep slipping out of the screw (cam-out)?
Three causes in order: (1) the bit is undersized for the recess, (2) the bit is worn at the tip, (3) you're not applying enough axial pressure to keep the bit seated.

Replace worn bits, match sizes exactly, lean into the drive. Pozi geometry resists cam-out better than Phillips - if you're using a PH bit and seeing cam-out, switch to PZ where the screw allows.

Can I use this on a cordless impact driver?
Use impact-rated (black-oxide finish) bits only. Standard bright-finish bits will snap at the hex shank after 50 to 200 impact blows.

Impact-rated bits have a softer torsion zone in the shank that absorbs each hammer blow as a small twist. Bright-finish bits don't have that and will fail at the chuck end. Check the listing for 'impact rated' or 'torsion zone' before pairing with an impact driver.

What screws does this fit?
PZ-marked screws including most European timber, decking and assembly screws. Cross-check the recess - cross plus four small radial ticks = Pozi.

Match the bit number to the recess number printed on the screw head. Where the bit and screw drive both have the same designation (PH2 bit, PH2 recess), the fit is correct.

How to Measure

Sizing Pozi bits are sized PZ1, PZ2, PZ3 by tip dimension. Pozi recesses have four small radial ticks between the cross arms - a PH bit in a PZ recess cams out under load. Match the bit number to the screw recess exactly.

How to measure a driver bit Pick the bit by the cross-recess tip size number (PH0-PH4 or PZ1-PZ3). The shank is the bit's clamping end - 1/4" hex is the universal standard across cordless drivers, impact drivers and bit holders. The overall length determines reach: 25mm insert for general use, 50mm to 90mm power bits with a torsion zone for impact drivers, 116mm for Hilti autofeed, long-shank Allen keys for recessed socket cap screws. Cross-check the tip dimension against the screw head before driving - an undersized bit cams out and strips the recess.

Measurements Accurate to the relevant standard and should be used as a guide only. They are either hand-measured or taken from suppliers' catalogues. We only stock Alpha for this product; substituting another brand is rare and would always be confirmed with you first.

Magnetism

This product is magnetised. The tip / cup retains a fastener through alignment and engagement, which speeds work in overhead, awkward or one-handed install scenarios. Across the wider Driving range, magnetised bits, holders and nutsetters speed install by holding the fastener on the tip through alignment; non-magnetised tools are preferred for electronics, magnetic-sensor proximity and any work where stray magnetism on the fastener would cause downstream issues. Check the specification table above for the per-SKU value before ordering for magnetism-sensitive applications.
