Alpha TurboBORE Spade Bit is the long series version of our 150mm Alpha spade bit,perfect for drilling holes in thick walls. This range of spade bits have a hole near the cutting point which is for pulling wires through
Features / Benefits: The long series range come in 5 sizes: 10mm,13mm,16mm,19mm and 26mm. Forged from one piece of high carbon steel,the 19mm and 26mm have strengthened shafts for even getting durability. The spade bit has a 1/4" quick change that fits most tools. The self-starting point and cutting edge is for fast drilling and the double outside spurs provide a cleaner hole and reduces vibration. Not recommended for use with extension bits
Tricks to using a Spade Bit: One common issue with spade bits is that they tend to splinter and "blow out" the back side of the hole. This blow out can be quite unsightly on a fine woodworking project. There are several methods for drilling clean holes with a spade bit,including clamping a sacrificial board to the back side of the workpiece when drilling; or drilling partway through the workpiece until the pilot point penetrates through the wood,then reversing the board and completing the hole by drilling from the back side
Spade Bit v Auger Bit: Spade bits are definitely cheaper but the hole quality isn’t as clean or precise as an Auger bit. If you can’t see the hole,spade bits are fine,if you want a really neat finish,use an Auger bit
