Description
- Set of 3 of Bottom / Intermediate / Taper Taps are for hand and machine operation and commonly used in smaller shops or DIY that prefer “one tap fits all” approach. The set comprises of 3x Carbon high quality straight flute taps made for Alpha
- Features / Benefits: The straight flute is the standard style of tap and is available in 3 types: Taper, Intermediate and Bottom, all 3 are suitable for a range of different tapping applications. As this basic tap will give acceptable performance in most materials and for medium sized production runs, it is usually the most economical tap to use. It can be especially beneficial when cutting short chipping material such as cast iron. A straight flute tap can be used in through or blind holes. Tap is made to 2N tolerances for optimum thread fit that balances fastener performance, manufacturing, economy and convenience
- Ideal for: Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Brass, Not recommended for Stainless Steel
- What is the difference between Taps?:
- Taper: 8 - 10 leads of thread used for starting a thread
- Intermediate: Less tapered, 4 - 5 leads, used to follow a Taper tap or for restoring threads
- Bottoming: Very little taper 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 leads, so will cut a new thread to the bottom of a blind hole, but the lack of taper makes starting a new thread difficult
- Manufactured in: EU
- Cutting Fluid: When drilling into ferrous metals we recommend the use of a cutting fluid or compound to aid in the efficiency of the tap and to prolong its working life. We recommend Alpha CDT cutting fluid (Code ATL005)
- Thread Pitch (Metric): Pitch means the distance between the peaks of two threads along a screw, bolt, or fastener expressed in millimetres (mm). Used when referring to Metric parts. For example, a thread pitch of 1.50mm means that the distance between one thread and the next is 1.50mm
